SEERS REVENGE Revelations D.L.Smith
PART ONE; A JOURNEY HOME
Michael ran hard and fast thru the woods, his defined muscles ached thanks to his mentor at school pushing him harder than usual, for no other apparent reason than he could. His oldest friend Ava added to his pain with her sporadic absentmindedness, leaving him running around with his head cut off, making sure she was safe. Not because she asked of course, he just felt this need and desire to do so. Glad he was top of his class, so his professors just left him alone, to be able to be with her whenever the need arose. Jumping over the brook, and turning left at the downed mossy tree, as fast as his body would allow. Feeling that tightening in his gut, when something wasn’t quite right, like a built in homing beckon of urgency. Once he reached the shore line he followed the river upstream, letting his instinct lead the way.
There she stood waiting on him in the distance, staring off into the silent cool night facing the water, her long dark hair blowing wildly in the wind. Ava, he called out to her, hoping to get one of her intoxicating smiles, letting him know all is well. As he approached he could see tears running down her beautiful cheek bones, which would make any man understandably distressed. So he did what any guy would do and looked around for the cause of her grief , or at least someone to blame and beat on.
After a quick assessment of their surroundings, he came to a standstill beside her and patiently waited for her to refocus and see him. He knew better than to try and get her attention when she was like this, in a trance that leaves her unaware, and vulnerable. Which left him keyed up and troubled, unable to comfort her when she obviously needs it. Michael took this time to compose himself and hide his concern, until he knew what was happening. He knew this had to be devastating to Ava in some way because she rarely cried, even if she tried to hide it from him when she did.
Watching for the little recognition signs she gave off when she was coming to, he began to count them off. One, her breathing would calm from its rapid pace. Two, her beautiful face would relax, which was a relief, because the devastated look frightened him. Three, her warm brown eyes would shine with the recognition of his familiar face, comforting him. He smiled as he watched this process, and gently rubbed his thumb across her cheek, wiping the tears away. He hated seeing her in distress, made him feel restless and tense, but he was used to it and whispered softly, how bad Ava?
It only took her a second more to push away the last of the vision out of sight, so she could truly hear and see him. She playfully slapped his arm for teasing, and making fun of her lapse, trying to lighten just how terrified she really was by saying, I wish you wouldn’t do that! Do what, he replied with that sly grin she loves so much? Startle me Michael, Ava barked trying to sound serious. Hey it's not my fault you didn't see me standing in front of your face, he replied with a chuckle. I was talking to you, but realized you weren't really here with me, he finished brushing her hair out of her tear soaked face. Oh sorry, what did you want to talk to me about that couldn’t wait until I came back into the house, she asked changing the subject. Oh no you don't Ava, first tell me what has you in tears, he probed not easily thrown off. She lifted her hand to her face and realized she was in fact crying. Embarrassed she wiped the tears away with her long sleeve and whispered, it’s not tears only rain, and hurriedly walked passed him towards their houses. Damn it Ava, Michael yelled after her, it's not raining, you’re just trying to change the subject. Just as Michael got the last word out, the night sky rumbled as if on cue and started to down pour. He just shook his head, and followed her towards the house without another word. Internally kicking himself for being too distracted to notice his surroundings, especially a storm coming in. Which seemed to happen a lot when Ava was concerned.
She always had visions in some form or another, so he wouldn't push her, he knew from experience to just remain calm. She'd tell him eventually, she always did. Each vision was different, and usually they had an underlining feeling accompanied with them. Which let her know whether to be afraid, or happy about what she was seeing, by the way her body reacted. In the beginning it was complicated, because she was always scared and uneasy about the things she was experiencing. She figured it was her wild imagination, and feared how easily she got pulled around by it, but he knew better. Her plan was always the same, tell him the obvious and withhold what was truly causing her pain. If he pushed too hard she would shut down, so Michael kept silent as he walked with her to their adjacent houses, and away from the river that bordered their back yards. Avar
No one was home, the house quiet and empty as usual. Both their mothers work nights, so it seemed like they were gone a lot. They were used to being alone in their simple existence. Well never really alone because Michael's bedroom window lined up perfect with hers, so they were always in each other’s line of sight, even when they weren’t together. Which seem to suit Michael just fine, and of course comforted Ava.
He walked up the stairs first to her room, looked around for any danger that might have triggered her vision, and found it all clear. He always took it upon himself from a young age to look out for her, she was always so unaware of her immediate surroundings he feared for her. Climbing on to the window sill Michael gave her a smile, and a wink, before he stepped out the open window. To anyone else this could seem a bit odd or startling, but to Ava she knew he had a catwalk adjoining their windows. This gave Michael an easier way to get to Ava in a hurry, just in case a dream or vision became too real for her to handle alone, which happened more often than not lately.
Ava was grateful for Michael as she began to remove her wet shirt, he accepted her eccentricity without judgment or proof. He could tell when she needed him, which would seem creepy to most, but Ava found it endearing and loyal. He was readily there with a plan to help her out of any situation that she may wind up in, good or bad. He was her only confidant and trusted friend, without him she feared she’d be locked away in an insane asylum. As long as she could remember Michael has always been by her side. Never spending one day apart, ever, and left her wondering how she deserved such a steadfast friend like him.
Michael never liked to believe Ava's visions were real, because when they were young, they were never pleasant. He has learned since then to log everything she says in his head for future understanding and study. He quickly changed out of his wet clothes, and crossed back over to Ava's window, rain still coming down outside. He knew something was wrong right away, because she was a modest person, yet she is standing topless holding a dry dark blue tank top in her hand. Catching himself lingering at her supple melon sized breasts, he quickly looked at her face and was instantly chastising himself for ogling her. Her mouth and eyes were frozen open in horror, like death was staring back at her from the mirror on the back of her closet door. Michael ran over to her and put his hand gently on her shoulder, leaned in like usual and whispered, come back to me softly in her ear. This time Michael was not expecting what happened next, Ava turned and punched him in the face. He stumbled back mostly out of surprise and shock, and raised his hands yelling whoa, hold on a minute? She has never raised a hand to him, ever. Noticing his fists balled up he dropped them to his side, a natural response to being hit, but this was Ava. His oldest fuzzy memory was when they were five years old, and he put gum in her hair, even then she didn't get upset and strike him.
Michael patiently continued to watch her until she blinked in recognition and started to cry hysterically. Michael only waited a moment more before walking back over and gently pulled her into his embrace. She fit perfect in his arms and he took comfort in that as he rubbed her back, while he held her and whispered why did you punch me Ava, what happened?
Pulling back from him she looked into his bright encouraging worried eyes, rubbed the back of her hand across her dripping nose and thought, how do I get him to understand? I need to keep him safe, he doesn’t deserve that, not because of me. Ava plastered on the best smile she could fake and took a step back while pulling on her shirt, realizing she was topless. This was one of those moments that let her know Michael was the real deal. When she blanked out on him, he could take advantage, but he’s never betrayed their friendship, not even stealing a kiss.
He went to step closer to her and began to ask again what happened, but she held up her hand to halt him from speaking. She knew at the very least she owed him an explanation, so very softly with a controlled calm she explained, someone is coming here, to my house. Now the first word was spoken the flood gates opened and Ava couldn’t stop. Do they know what I can do, how could they know? Don't you see Michael, you have to leave me I can’t lose you too. You’re going to be eighteen in a couple days, you could go anywhere do anything. They wouldn't be able to hurt you for information, because you wouldn't know anything, but just like that she stopped talking. She could see Michael wasn't really listening anymore. He probably stopped listening the moment she said someone was coming.
Michael did zone out, he was stressing about needing more information. She was a good actress but she couldn’t hide her voice, he could hear the undertones of panic hidden there. If someone was coming then they needed a plan. How do they know about Ava? About this house? What do they want? WHEN ARE THEY COMING?
Ava stared at Michael and remembered the things they bonded over, trying to memorize his face before he leaves. Having both lost their dads, their mothers always working, or never seem to be around. Things always worked out as long as they were together. Michael could run, and be safe, he was the smartest guy she knew. At their elite private boarding school you were enrolled at five years old and graduated at eighteen. Students were tested as they developed, and guided towards the careers that suited them on an individual basis. As you mastered your fields of study, you were rewarded with an elective of your choice. For instance Michael mastered Business Accounting for his math credit in the seventh grade, so he got to learn how to drive a car, but didn’t stop there. Graduating to planes, and everything else with a motor that went fast. They offer a wide variety of course study which Michael took full advantage of, with the help from his mentor. From martial arts and weapons training, he also learn strategy and survival. Farming and industry, along with all his techie stuff she didn’t understand.
Ava couldn't help but reminisce about all the things Michael has learned, feeling a bit ashamed of her own inadequatcy and inability to stay focused, and commit to something. He could do everything, and speak multiple languages, he was the whole perfect package. Hot and smart. Quiet but athletic. Strong and gentle, and above all brave and loyal. Ava was having a hard time letting him go, to find the words to release him. From the beginning she drove him crazy by just being herself, but he never left her side. He succeeds at everything he tries and liked her right away, she was his total opposite. Soon she would find herself for the first time alone, and tried pushing that thought aside because it hurt too much.
Well, Michael said, startling Ava out of her sad thought. If someone is coming for you we better get ready. Wait, what, NO! What are you talking about Michael, Ava asked flabbergasted? Have you not heard a thing I've said she continued, you are to go and stay out of this? Ava got thoughtful for a moment and said with little confidence, I've got an idea. I'm going to leave and keep moving, that way no one else has to get hurt. Michael please don't you see, I don't even know how they know me, what if they know about you? I could never live with myself if anything happens to you because of me. A flash of Michael's lifeless bloody body in the river overtook her minds eye, paralyzing her with grief.
Wait you want me to stay behind, let you go off on your own, Michael said with a mixture of shock and anger, like this wasn't an option. Yes, Ava replied with a defeated whisper, relieved to be distracted from that horrific image. Avoiding his eyes she continued in a timid voice, I can't watch anyone I care about get hurt, Michael you’re all I have. He could not bear the thought of Ava leaving without him on her own, so he reached out his hand and raised her chin so she could look in his eyes. Very calmly he said, Ava you cannot leave without me, you’re shitty at planning. What happens if you have a vision and don't see the danger right in front of your face? You need me, I don't want to be apart, and it feels wrong. Who knows you better than me? Don't you see the best way to survive this is together, whatever happens.
Ava remembered all the times Michael has saved her life, from walking into traffic, to burning herself, he was always looking out for her. He was right of course, she needed him, but could she be that selfish. Listen Michael she said more confident than she felt, we have less than two days before they get here if I’m right, and I'm really tired and need to sleep so I can think clearly. I'm sorry I hit you. I have no plan and I'm scared. I don't want to be without you, and you’re too stubborn to leave. Michael smiled recognizing that he’s won the argument, and grabbed Ava's hand and led her out onto the catwalk, and over to his bedroom, thankful it was just drizzling now.
She looked around his room as they entered and smiled a little to see the usual organized space. His room was very large unlike hers, and was painted a dark green that matched her blanket in her room. Just like hers was painted purple like his comforter, Ava always loved this coincidence. His wet clothes from earlier were on the floor where he took them off, the only items out of place. Books and weapons lined the walls, along with projects he’s been working on. Whenever she came in here she would move something to see if he would notice, which he did right away. His explanation was if everything has a place than it’s easy to find, and tells me if someone was where they weren’t supposed to be.
Looking closer at his books on his table, she noticed a lot of them were recreational today. Weapons and gear catalogs, and some others she couldn't read in a different language. Ava involuntarily chuckled which got Michael’s attention with her sudden mood swing, asking what’s funny as he exited his closet, holding a large handled paper bag. Ava ignored his questioning stare and asked, do you read anything else, holding up a gun catalog with a beautiful women holding a big gun in between her huge breasts? Michael looked around his room with her and shrugged. Well he said if I did, you wouldn't get cool gifts like this, holding out the bag he was carrying towards her.
She took it from him hesitantly, causing him to grin at her confused look. She set the bag down on the floor, and pulled out the softest black leather riding jacket she has ever felt. Michael helped her put it on, and smiled as she lifted the collar up around her neck, lifting the hood. That smile did wonderful things to Michael sending a wave of pleasure threw his body like a shiver, watching her lips part. Her enjoyment as she smelled the scent of the leather, distracting her from her troubles temporarily. He loved that he knew her so well, and got great satisfaction in knowing she loved it. She put her hands in the pockets and pulled out a ring? It was a simple platinum lined black band, with a leafy vine weaving through the middle. There was an engraving on the inside that read simply, ALWAYS. Ava smiled and slid it on her thumb realizing it was too big, and she looked at Michael confused. He smiled at her and took the ring and put it on his ring finger, and held her hand and said, this is my birthday gift from you. Ava squeezed his hand ashamed that she never remembered holidays. She was never prepared, but Michael he was the planner, he remembered everything. Seeing he was beginning to lose his smile, she asked so did you like your gift? Michael kissed her cheek and said, I have everything I need right here, and yes it was the best one at the mall, flashing her that sly grin like he was up to something.
Ava watched surprised as Michael walked over to his window and threw the catwalk to the ground. She remembered the day he put the board into place. She was having a nightmare and thrashed and rolled around so much, she almost hung herself with her tank top when she fell out of bed. It took Michael too long to go up and down stairs and unlock her door that he said, it was a waste of precious time. That next day he installed it, not wanting to take that chance again.
He extended his hand taking hers in his, lifted it to his lips and kissed them gently and asked, so did you like your gift? Ava stood on her toes and kissed his lips, and in a sweet voice said, this jacket is even better than the necklace garrote you got me last year. I didn't think anything would top that, but I was mistaken. Michael laughed enjoying that, wishing he could've deepened the kiss. Instead asked her, you’re sleeping here tonight just as she yawned big, knowing her answer already. Ava didn't reply like he predicted, she just removed the jacket as she walked over to his bed laid down and closed her eyes. He knew how much her visions tired her out, they seem to pull all her energy right out of her body. He was happy to see her try and sleep, and wished he could join her, but he had to come up with a plan. He took one more look at Ava's exquisite form curled up on his pillow, before he disappeared into his walk in closet.
He started to catalog what they might need on the road, trying not to get distracted by Ava in his bed feet away. He soon realized he didn't have everything he needed here at home. All the small blades Ava was familiar with were in her locker at school, and all the supplies Michael normally carried were in his, along with his secondary emergency stash of cash. School was out for the weekend, grades were closed, so he wasn’t worried about failing when they didn’t show up Monday morning for the last couple days of graduation ceremonies. The down fall was the school would be locked, and they didn't have enough time to wait around to get what they needed. Knowing Ava saw they needed to leave by tomorrow, he peeked around his closet door to see if she was asleep. She was and this gave Michael the perfect opportunity to sneak out and be back before she wakes up. He tucked the blanket around her so she would think he was there holding her, and left the room leaving the door ajar, so she wouldn't hear it click closed. He didn’t want to leave just in case she needed him, knowing how Ava sometimes got scared in the middle of the night. She would climb in his bed, and hold him while he pretended to sleep, always aware of her presence. Her insecurities made him feel useful and wanted, any reason to quench the mental need he had to be around her. She was crafty when she woke in the morning, and snuck back out so he wouldn’t know she was there, or at the very least try too. His love for Ava was unlike anything he ever felt, he couldn’t explain it, and it was only getting stronger to ignore.
Quietly he went down the stairs avoiding the creaky stair, and out the door heading into the open garage. Uncovered his rebuilt Harley Davidson sportster, and began to guide it down the street, so he wouldn't wake Ava with the roar of the motor. He loved this bike, it made freedom seem like a possibility whenever he rode it. It showed up one day in the garage after he learned to ride one at school. It needed some work and love, but it took no time at all to get it on the road, thinking his mom must approve, because she brought it here. He only wished he had the money to buy one of every vehicle he learned to drive, but grateful nonetheless.
The rain stung his face as he raced to the school, he hoped he had enough cash saved so he didn’t need to go to a bank, but he did worry how long he could keep them off the grid. He’s been saving and playing the stock market game for years and has two hundred and fifty thousand dollars saved. The trick was going to be getting the money converted, if they were really being watched that closely.
Michael pulled up to the school, nothing seemed out of the ordinary as he parked the bike. On closer inspection he noticed the gym window was ajar, and thought how lucky am I. Climbing through the window and dropping down the other side without a sound was challenging with the silence of an empty room and wet squeaky sneakers.
He hurried over to Ava's locker after emptying his, and started to load all her gear into his bag, even though she wasn't great at using any of it. Better to be over prepared he thought to himself, than regret not having it later.
There was a faint noise, and instinctively he spun crouched low, blade at the ready and scanned the room for the source. There by the door was an outline of what looks to be a man from the dim hallway light. Michael stayed low and quiet, thinking its Friday no one is supposed to be here, maybe this is why the window was open, burglar. He tried harder to focus on the potential threat when the light clicked on. Oh, Michael stood up taken back to find his mentor Brian standing there looking at him. What are you doing Michael, and where is Ava he asked in a flat but demanding tone? Michael was confused and didn't put down his blade, what does he mean where's Ava? Could he be asking because for thirteen years they have never been apart? Frustrated at her for not giving him more information about her vision, he wondered was Brian a threat or not? Was he the man coming for her? NO he thought, she knew him, she would have said his name.
Brian started to walk towards Michael, which took him out of his thought process. He took a step back, pocketed the blade, and swung the bag over his shoulder. He was going to run for it, when Brian spoke. I asked you a question Michael, where is Ava? Michael thought his words could sound like a threat, but his body language was normal, casual, and not tense for a fight. He’d know, he’s been training with the man his whole life.
Stop, Ava thought, I don't belong here, she couldn’t seem to get a grip on this nightmare. Ava felt like she was cold, and everything was moving so fast she didn't recognize anything around her. She closed her eyes for a moment and thought, let this play out, gather information. Michael would tell her this all the time growing up, he'd say find out what you’re supposed to see, and come back to me. The last couple days her curse has been more hyperactive and demanding, leaving her unease and disoriented.
When she finally opened her eyes, she realized she was on the floor unable to move, due to the cocoon of blankets wrapped around her. Ava knew Michael did this and normally it would be considered sweet, but tonight it just upset her. She didn’t want to feel trapped, it was bad enough she didn’t know if she was awake for real. Michael was her anchor in these type of situations, because being alone was her greatest fear. She hated the idea of being trapped in her head, it wasn't a pleasant place to be. She looked around the room and couldn't find Michael anywhere. It was quiet and dark, and the wind whistling outside the window made the situation creepier than she needed right now. Then what woke me up she thought? She didn't like not knowing where Michael was, it was like missing the rational, brave, smart side of herself. Leaving behind nothing but fear, insecurity and crazy to deal with, which is never a good look.
Trying to hype herself up that she was okay alone, as she went through the house. "You can do this, be brave, everything is normal". The only thing she found was a letter from Michael’s mother telling him she had the early night shift, like usual. Ava went back upstairs quickly and sat on Michael’s bed trying to keep a level head. She picked up one of his catalogs on the night stand as a distraction, wondering and hurt that maybe he took her advice, and left after all. Flipping through the pages not really looking at anything, just going through the motions, she sighed and whispered Michael I miss you. A flash burned Ava’s eyes and a warm tingling feeling spread under her skin as he came into view. She could see Michael outside sitting on his bike. Ava was scared she could never see Michael like this before, was this her dream earlier, riding on the back of his bike? She could see the ground still wet from the rain as she followed his gaze which was looking at the opened gym window Ouch, Ava said aloud paper cut. With a snap she was back sitting on Michael’s bed, catalog on the floor where she dropped it. She knew where she needed to go if she wanted to stop him from leaving, admitting to herself she is that selfish.
Michael stood there looking at his mentor. Why would I know where Ava is, maybe she’s out with friends, he replied. He was not going to tell anyone that she was at home in his bed asleep. Do not lie to me Michael, Brian said in a stern tone, I see you have her gear. Michael didn't care what he saw, he was leaving. He turned to go around the lockers and was surprised to see his mentor standing there blocking his path. This of course upset him greatly, having someone in his face, especially now. He couldn’t get into a fight, Ava needed him so he backed away, leaving him angry and unsure how to react to his mentor acting out of character. Michael pulled a small silver ball out of his bags pocket, another little toy he mastered in weapons class. Looking Brian in the eye Michael asked him in a demanding voice, what do you think you are doing, and why do you care about Ava's whereabouts? Brian did not move for several moments making Michael uncomfortable, his mentor could always read him, one of those little annoyances when you spend a lot of time with someone.
Than like nothing happened, Brian just smiled and sat on the nearest bench and said, Michael there are only two reasons for you to be breaking into my school. You have either decided to rob me, which I find very unlikely, OR dearest Ava is in trouble. Michael just scrutinized his mentor looking for anything unusual or out of character, unbeknownst to him that he already answered his mentors question by nodding slightly. I see Brian said with concern all over his face, when are the rest coming? Michael instantly went on guard, what could he possibly know about this. He tensed and was about to run when Brian sensing his resolve stood up and said wait, I have something important I need to tell you. Michael unsure for what seemed like the hundredth time today, just looked at his teacher and wondered, what could he possibly know about Ava? So he decided to just hear him out, what could a few moments possibly hurt?
Thirteen years ago Brian began, when you were five I left you with a surrogate mother, someone to watch over you when I couldn't. Someone I could trust to keep you happy and next to Ava at all times. What, Michael was confused and said you’re not making any sense? It will Brian said cutting off whatever Michael was going to say next. Give me a chance to explain, Brian pleaded. Michael only nodded in response. I am your father Michael. NO, Michael yelled, my father is. DEAD, Brian cut him off again, I know, that's exactly what I needed everyone to believe. It was the only way to protect Ava, and still be able to see you every day. What does any of this have to do with Ava, Michael growled, she's just my neighbor? It caused Michael pain to say this out loud, but he had to keep his feelings for Ava a secret. She warned him they, whoever they are were coming, and they would hurt the people she loved.
To make matters worse Ava awkwardly jumped down from the gym window, almost face planting the landing. Instantly Michael stood between her and Brian, not enjoying the amused expression on his mentors face. Brian unable to help himself asked, how did you find him Ava? Michael flashed his mentor a defiant look and stroked the silver ball in his hand. Brian didn't miss a thing, he knew if he moved his own son was going to throw that stun grenade at him and run with her, leaving him no chance to explain, so Brain just nodded and waited.
Ava wrapped her arms around Michael hoping she could explain to him how she felt, and when she looked up into his eyes she knew right away something was wrong. Ava looked back and forth between Brian and her Michael and asked in a whispered voice, Michael what's wrong, why are you here? He didnt answer, in that moment he watched her eyes go blank and far away. He held her close to him, and felt relief to have her in her spot safely in his arms, fearing his mentor was trying to stall him from going to get her. Focusing on Brian he said, now you know where Ava is, you can tell me why it took you thirteen years to talk to me about this.
Brian sat back onto the bench and said, I will not hurt your Ava Michael I see she's your beloved. I give you my oath son I will not hurt her, ever. Michael stroked Ava's beautiful long hair hidden behind her back, and nodded at his mentor to continue. I didn't tell you because I needed to protect you both Brian began. Michael could feel Ava shake under his arm, he rubbed her shoulder with his thumb like he usually did, but never took his eyes off Brian. He leaned down and whispered in her ear come back to me Ava. She focused on the sound of his voice, like a life line, and smiled like he was her only source of assurance in her world of trepidation.
Brian spoke up, he couldn't help it, what did you see dearest one? This made her jump at having someone call her out on her curse. Michael holding Ava tightly to him said, No, you were going to tell me a story. It started thirteen years ago, when we were five. You were enlightening me that you are my ‘’father’’, Michael said threw his teeth, and all the reasons you had for leaving us vulnerable and alone. Ava didn't react to Michael’s statement, she focused on Brian and saw it. The eyes, build, chin, and the same hair color, the only difference was Michael’s was lighter. Ava got pulled into a flash of Brian holding Michael as a baby. She watched the pride all over his face as he personally trained the young boy who was now a man.
Brian began to talk and pulled Ava back into the now. I left you both thirteen years ago to protect you. My best friend Charles, your father Ava was murdered along with both your mothers. Your father was my Seer, and best friend. He could see past, present, and future events. Brian paused a moment, it’s been more than a decade since he’s talked about the past, and the words burned having to admit it really happened out loud.
One day after a long stretch of storms, your father asked me to take you kids to town Brian whispered. Let you play outside with other kids, and have ice cream. You have been so good, and cooped up in the manor for too long due to the rain. Of course I agreed, I too thought you deserved an adventure. I didn't think anything was wrong. Normally Charles and I told each other everything. I because he would see it all anyway, and he because I was his Warrior. I was the one put on this earth to protect him. Aw that truth hurt, and Brian had to regroup trying to compose his emotions. Hours later you kids were tired and dirty, Brian began again, so we went back home to the estate. I found your mothers in the family room, they could have been sleeping if it wasn't for all the blood. Michael could see the rage and grief radiate from his mentor as he talked. I found my Charles in his office, dead, taken from me. I ran to you kids, put you back into the car and drove to our barn. While you slept in the car, I went after my mother when I heard her go by to stay with you.
I had to know how and why I was being punished, I needed answers so I could get justice. I had to watch as some men, and a hooded figure tortured your mothers for information about your father, on our security cameras. I saw your father locked in his study looking right at me in the monitor. Defeated, I dutifully watched helpless as my best friend sliced through his own throat and lay dying in front of my eyes. I was too late to save him, not knowing at the time that he was purposely blocking his emotions from me, so I wouldn’t come rushing back. I owed it to myself and you kids to witness and understand why this happened. Brian choked back the hurt he still carried and continued, Charles mouthed I had too, I'm sorry old friend. Hide the kids, keep them safe, you’re the only one I can trust, and he was gone. Lost to me forever, leaving me broken with an array of emotions I just can’t explain. Ava wiped a stray tear from her cheek, feeling every emotion Brian was trying to hide, like they were her own, tearing her heart out.
Michael couldn't wrap his mind around any of this. All he wanted to do right now is keep Ava safe, and stay focused on the task at hand. Brian was watching his son, he could almost see what he was thinking, and he knew what he needed to do. AVA, he said her name out loud to get her to look directly at him. He needed her to see the truth, to believe him, so Michael could trust him, to know he was only trying to keep them safe.
This of course made Michael upset, he didn't know if he could trust this man, for all anyone knows he could be making it all up. So Michael decided to ask him. How do I know Brian you’re not with the people Ava saw? Brian was hurt, you could see the shock in his face like he was slapped, but he pulled himself together and said, so she does have the sight like her father. Michael was furious with himself, he couldn't believe he gave her away. So he started backing away towards the window. Wait, Brian yelled looking at Ava, willing her to please see the truth. He already knew Ava had the gift, her talents showed them self from a young age. He just wanted Michael to trust him enough to tell him before he said something, but he was running out of time.
He already had two bodies in the basement incinerator from earlier, when they showed up trying to survey the place. He wished he had time to tell Michael the tale. Fuckers thought they could sneak around, but he had the place booby trapped in inconspicuous ways. The first was the owl that lived just outside his window that would hoot anytime movement was detected outside. That was not enough to get out of bed for, yet tonight there was also the doors that gave off their own unique sound when opened. With other various indicators that was informative, telling locations and number of intruders by the various sounds.
Ava focused in on his feelings again, trying to get a feel for what Brian wanted her to see. Michael looked down in time to see her eyes glaze over, holding on to her tightly. She saw a slide show of sorts, flashes of pictures and feelings around them, of Michael and Brian laughing. You could feel the love radiate off them into her soul, making her feel warm and safe. Then it changed to a flash of people who felt familiar, but she didn't know them. She could feel the pain, and sadness around these people before seeing the locker room again. Ava nodded at Brian, she knew he was telling the truth, or at the very least his version of the truth. She saw the relief in Brian’s eyes and looked at Michael, her anchor and support. Michael didn't need the words, he knew it was all true, one look at his Ava told him all he needed to know. Ava never gets it wrong, she always knows, his mentor was his fallen father.
Ava’s gift didn’t come without its issues thou, the one large flaw to her brilliance was she couldn't see herself, and that is where Michael came in. A thought quickly crossed his mind, then how can she see whose coming? Maybe he thought, they didn’t know who they were looking for, that could be helpful in keeping her safe?
Brian continued to talk like nothing happened, he seemed to be cool with Ava zoning in and out, like he was used to it. This was weird because normally Michael had to hide Ava when she did this, so she wouldn't draw notice from others. I stayed with you Brian said calmly getting Michael’s attention, tried to keep you safe. I rebuilt this place, became your instructor. I was training you myself, teaching you everything you might need to keep your Ava safe. I swear to you I never truly left you, I wanted to tell you everything, every day. Michael stood tall and didn't want to hear this, everything he thought he knew was a lie. All he wanted to do now was get Ava out of here so he could think.
When you both turn eighteen in a less than a week Brian hurried seeing Michael’s resolve. You Ava will become a fully-fledged influential Seer , "our Supreme". Michael you will become her Warrior, confidant, and Lover. You will become as strong as she needs you to be. You will be able to pull strength from each other in times of need for stability. Michael just held Ava close. He knew he had always loved her, no other girl has ever made him want to be without her. She was his, and he belonged to her. This happy thought didn't last, he let himself get off track, and he was scared for the first time in his life. How is he supposed to protect Ava from the whole world, how? Brian watched his son, he saw and knew the look on his face. He said, don't worry son, Ava will see, all you need to do is follow her. Ava found her voice, after watching Michael and asked, how do you know so much about this? I’ve paid the price to know Brian replied, you see you’re not supposed to use your sight for gain. You’re meant to see things naturally, and not what people force you to see. There are consequences to consider before you use your gifts, and I can say it’s rarely worth the price, with one exception. Ava didn’t push, too tired to find out what Brian’s one exception was and forgot as soon as Brian started talking again.
After seeing the monitors that night, I knew I didn't let my Seer down. He sent me away on purpose, he probably didn't see any other way. I understood I was the only one they couldn't see. I could keep you safe, give you time to develop naturally at your own pace. It was my oath to protect you Ava, and it was my duty to raise my son to be the protector you would need. It was a dying wish from my Supreme, I couldn't tell you until you were ready to hear it. I know you don't understand why I left you Michael, but I had too. I had to keep my Charles little girl safe. We had to split up just in case they found me or followed me. When Michael nodded Brian turned to Ava and said, now please tell me what you saw Ava, I need to be able to protect you until you ascend.
Ava locked eyes with Michael and was silently saying if he wanted to kill us he could have done it anytime this past thirteen years. Ava was saying we are going to have to tell him. They both turned and looked at Brian. He was smiling at them, like he knew what was being said in there silent eye conversation.
Ava squeezing Michael’s hand asked Brian, how did you know I would love him? Hearing those words out of Ava's mouth constricted Michael’s heart. Brian smiled and shook his head and replied, Ava you and Michael were born just for each other, equals, his strength and skills will grow with your abilities. You were born on the same day so you could grow up together, know each other inside and out, someone you both could love and rely on. Don't you see he loves you already and would die for you, are you telling me Ava you don't feel it? Ava looked at Michael his head was down, and his eyes closed, she could see him absorbing all this information. She also knew he had enough for today, so Ava turned to Brian and said, a van full of men, will be at my house tomorrow night. I don't know who they are or who sent them. All I know is they are coming and they're not friendly. When Ava looked at Michael again with those concerned eyes, Brian knew what Ava saw, Michael fall.
Brian dropped her gaze and said in a couple days, after your birthday, you should be able to see everything. You’re going to go through a change, your father told me about it and I felt some of it. You will become a sort of beacon of information, it may be too much to handle at first but that's why you have Michael. I had to take Charles to our cave for a couple days, so he could get a grip on time. He told me it was like watching a jumbled movie of the past, present, and future all playing at the same time trying to align. I'm sorry if that sounds weird, but it was the best way for me to understand what he was trying to tell me. We use to be able to speak like you and Michael, without using words. It is bitter sweet watching you too do the same things, but wonderful because it lets me know your bond is true.
Michael was tired and getting impatient. He did not want to hear anymore right now, his mind was a disorderly mess of information and emotions as it is. He looked at Ava and said, it's time to go. Brian didn't say anymore, he would do what he always did, watch from the sidelines until he was needed. It has worked for thirteen years why change a winning formula. Michael led Ava threw the school and outside to the bike, watching his mentor lock up behind them. Her appearance finally caught his notice and was happy to see she wore the riding jacket he bought her. He slid the silver ball that he held in his hand back into his pack, and got on the bike and waited for Ava to get into her usual spot behind him. He put the bike in gear, and asked Ava how’d she get here? I used my ten speed Ava replied pointing towards the bike on the ground as Michael pulled away.
I’m Ava’s Warrior, we were meant to be together Michael thought trying to make sense of what he knew in his heart, with the information they discovered. She’s my Seer, made just for me. Yes this felt right, even made a little sense why he was so drawn to her, their soul mates? Michael smiled and took a cleansing breathe when Ava squeezed him again around the waist, she always knew what he needed to stay calm. Maneuvering around a large snapped tree limb with ease, Michael noticed the set of headlights following them at some distance stop, unable to sneak past the downed tree. Brian came to Michael’s thoughts, he had a father. He didn’t know how to feel about it, leaving him conflicted. On one hand his father was alive and never left him, trained him, gave him every opportunity to be with Ava. On the other hand, he was with him every day lying to his face, leaving them blind to danger.
After parking his bike in the garage, they both got off the sportster, and walked into the house. Michael turned to Ava and said in a tired but determined voice, you need to talk to me, tell me everything you see, and feel, no matter what. We can't have secrets from each other. I will live and die by your side, so please don't ever leave me in the dark, I need to be able to protect you. Feeling his desperation, Ava agreed. I will tell you everything Michael, except the things that are too painful to say. Michael didn't like this amendment to his request, but decided to take his father’s advice, and always listen to his Seer. It was nice to finally have a name for Ava’s abilities, and that they were meant to be together like he always believed.
Ava walked over to his refrigerator and pulled out some eggs and bacon, setting the items on the counter top, and looked out the small window. It was very early, Brian’s truth took all night to explain, and they were still plagued with questions. The sun was a hue on the horizon, the slow transformation did wonderful things to the landscape. The shadows saying goodbye for now, and the morning brought the promise of a new day. Looking over at Michael as she prepared breakfast, he looked so tired, not sleeping didn't agree with him. She cracked the eggs in the sizzling pan, the aroma of bacon frying in the skillet made the kitchen smell like home. Ava watched out the window as the day began its change in front of her eyes, simple, easy she thought. Why can't my ascend be so simple, gradual, like the sun? Her thoughts shifted to the things Brian said, earlier. She kept getting stuck on one word, which didn’t seemed possible until now, "Lover". She loved him, she knew that her whole life, and never wanted to jeopardize what they had. The minute Ava admitted the feelings to herself, her surroundings changed.
She could see Michael laughing, standing on some porch she didn't recognize. Ava was aware she could still smell the bacon frying in the pan, at the same time. This has never happened before she thought to herself, today was full of firsts. Ava focused on her vision, see what I'm supposed to see she thought to herself, and then get back to Michael. The instant she thought his name the slide show started. Michael laughing, shooting, Michael driving a tractor, running, fighting, Michael, Michael. Image after image flashed in front of her eyes. Then stopped, on one image, Michael holding a child. Ava had enough time to be shocked before it started again. Michael kissing someone, what Ava thought focusing on the girl? She would no Michael anywhere, but who is the girl and why is she so damn blurry. Ava thought frustrated, well this has never happened before realizing she also spoke I aloud.
Michael instantly rose up from his stupor and grabbed the spatula from her hand, turned off the stove and directed her to a seat at the table. Sitting down beside her he held her hand. Watching her he noticed all the signs, blank look, far away stare, and still posture, but something was different, she seem to be aware that he was there.
She continued to watch her own personal slide show about Michael, and his love life with this blurry chick. Envy flooded Ava's feelings as she watched this girl make her Michael happy.
He was internally worried for Ava and squeezed her hand and was pleasantly surprised to see her smile back at him. He relaxed a little bit, but was still waiting on her to talk to him again. He was trying so hard to be patient with Ava's changing abilities, all the while going through some changes of his own. What he didn't like were all the feelings and emotions that came with his maturity, blurring what he wanted with what he actually could have.
Ava realized, the more she focused on holding Michael's hand in the kitchen, the less she cared about the blurry girl. This is very confusing she said out loud to Michael. You have no idea he replied, as she blindly ran her hands up his arms, and across his chest. I don't know how to explain this, she said trying to keep her promise to tell him everything, I’m seeing you. Michael stiffened and thought what could she possible see about me? He wished for this, to be able to get information as she sees it. He liked this idea of being able to protect her better. Ava chose that moment as she spoke to him about what she was seeing, to rub her hands down his chest towards his stomach. This put Michael in a weird situation of moral obligation and pleasure. He begged silently for her to stop before she goes too far and he can’t resist anymore.
Ava took a quick intake of breath, which sobered up Michael, like getting splashed in the face with cold water. She stopped talking to him, the scenes were getting to personal and upsetting. MINE was all Ava could think and with a flash of rage she knew. Ava let go of her vision and sat there in the kitchen looking at Michael in the flesh with new eyes, a little out of breath. She saw where her hands were and pulled them away from him looking a little embarrassed. Michael saw she was back with him, and a little amused at how real her sight seem to be for her. He also saw she was upset about something. Don't stop Ava. I kind of like this, you being able to talk to me.
Ava kept her head down and eyes closed and said, Michael you belong to me. I saw you, well us, or I just want it to be me. It was blurry at first she began to tell him. Why he asked? Because I guess I was blind before Ava admitted her stupidity, I didn't have the whole story, and now I guess I do. I choose you. Ava looked up at Michael, pulled him into a real kiss for the first time, hoping he wouldn’t reject her. When she let him go, he was I guess for a better phrase, shell shocked. So she did what she knew Michael would respond to, she talked to him about what she saw. All the embarrassing details but one, the child. She didn't know what that was about. He was too young to have any kids, she would know, wouldn’t she. She began to stress about this, when Michael surprised her and pulled her into his arms. She was beginning to get comfortable, in that spot that she fit so perfectly, when someone knocked at the door. Michael smiled and flashed her that sly grin she liked so much, as he left the room to answer it. She could only imagine the sneaky things he was thinking, in that big beautiful brain of his.
Once out of Ava’s sight Michael pulled his blade and quietly looked out the peek hole, yelling at himself for being caught off guard. He didn’t know what to expect, but he needed to be ready without upsetting her. Opening the door and stepping aside Michael let Brian pass and walk into the kitchen. Brian asked, am I interrupting anything? Michael maneuvered by his father and growled at him in response as he holstered his blade, letting him know you sure the hell did.
Ava watched Michael head to the stove, as Brian sat at the table. He picked up the spatula and began recooking their breakfast from earlier. She had to look away from him, just looking at Michael's back, and his muscles, made her blush. Now she knew Michael loved her she couldn’t stop thinking about him. So Ava turned her attention on Brian instead, when she did, she saw a flash of his younger self driving in a car with a man. She hated that she couldn’t control what she saw, and it scared her a little. Yet, seeing Brian in the past was unnerving, and the man he was with, felt familiar?
Brian smiled his own version of a sly grin and said, more questions dearest Ava. She was going to ask how he knew she had questions, but decided to just go with it and ask, when did you meet my father? Ava was curious about the man she kept seeing with Brian, and wondered if it was him. Brian began by saying, I think our earliest memories together, was when we started school. We were drawn together like magnets. As we grew older we were always together. We even shared a birthday. I noticed young, your father was different but I liked him anyway. He was my best friend, and I couldn't help gravitating to where ever he was. He was caring, eccentric, and funny. Lighthearted, and adventurous, and I liked him immediately.
Ava could see the faint happiness in Brian’s eyes as he talked about her father. Even now, after all these years she could see his love never faded, and could understand were Michael’s loyalty came from. Our family Brian continued, told us when we were around seven that our families were bound together. They explained that our families work as a whole to keep everyone safe, hidden from the world, to hide our secrets. They explained to us that for thousands of years our bloodlines have been linked. Every first born son from both lines were bonded. Charles and I, my father James, and your grandfather were also bonded. This went back as far as anyone can remember. There has been one Seer and one Warrior created in this family for every generation. Ava you were lucky in a way to have such a smart family, they learned how to find there Warriors over time. Seers and Warriors that lived on our estate kept journals, to pass down to the next generation. Through time they saw a link between our families, and decided, instead of searching generation after generation for their Warrior, they would live together, get an earlier start with the bonding process. Some Seers weren't so lucky, they are lost until they make the change and found there Warrior on their own. I'm sure that is a scary thing to go through, but they made sure we didn't have that far to look, and neither did you and Michael. I made sure of that.
Ava followed up with another question. What about Me? What do you mean dearest, Brian asked? You said the first born son is the Seer, well, I'm not a son Ava stated the obvious. Your right Ava, Brian replied, you are so special. You are the first generation to have a female Seer on record. Ava was very confused and scared at this information, what did it mean, is she defective. This topic bothered Ava, and she didn't want to discuss these feelings with Brian, so she changed topics. What about the other kids, did the families only ever just have the first son, or was their other kids cursed with abilities? Brian smiled and said, yes your family only had Charles, but we know from the journals that earlier generations had lots of children. And yes they were all normal, no GIFTS or abilities recorded. Brian hoped Ava didn’t really feel like her gifts were curses, he never intended to make her afraid of how incredible she was.
Michael set breakfast on the table and sat down next to Ava and began to eat. She didn't touch her breakfast, her brain to full to listen to her stomach. After absorbing all this new information, she asked one more question. The one that has been nagging her all morning. Brian she said hesitant, I think I saw Michael and I together, is that possible? He's my Warrior, how does this work? Michael looked at Ava, curious about the answer, and stunned she verbalized it. He never let himself think about Ava that way, he knew he loved her and always hoped, but never pushed. His only concern before now was that she get through the day without injuring herself. Excitement filled his soul making him warm and happy, looking at her. Now that he thought about it, ever since she kissed him all he’s wanted to do is touch her. Just as quickly his body filled with fear, could he be with Ava and still be able to protect her? Brian watched both of them before he answered. He seemed to know what Michael was thinking because he answered both Ava's spoken question and Michael’s unspoken one with a simple Yes.
Ava looked over to Michael and saw that same sly grin she loved so much, but accompanied with a feeling of relief flooding off him. Ava, you and Michael are destined to be together Brian continued. Your father saw it before he died, and I knew for sure after you both were born. We had to keep you too together all the time, you would cry if separated. So all I can say to you both is trust in yourselves. You too have made it this far together, why split up a sure thing. Ava thanked Brian, she ended up having more questions than answers and stood up, both men following her lead. Ava grabbed Michael's hand, feeling less confident then she let on and said to Brian, I'm taking my Warrior to bed. Michael just gawked at her, thinking he heard her wrong. You obviously know your way around here, so make yourself at home she finished.
Turning towards the window when she went to leave, she noticed the sun has breached the horizon now and filled the sky. Birds were chirping in the trees, traffic horns in the distance. She looked at the clock on the wall, it read noon, that can’t be right she thought. Ava turned and scanned the room around her, everything was the same as before. She turned back and looked at the clock again it said, 5:30. She looked to Brian and said, we will be up at noon, and I think you should take me to this cave. Brian only nodded with his fist over his heart and exited the kitchen, and retreated to the family room.
Ava led the way upstairs entering his room. She began to remove her shoes, jacket, and even her pants, the whole time fearful of the rejection. She smiled at Michael and headed over to his bed getting under the covers. Michael just watched in stunned silence, admiring her tight ass visible under her shirt. Eventually he followed her lead and stripped down to his black boxer briefs exposing his definition. Michael was built solid, his long surfer hair covered his hazel eyes. He got in next to Ava and notice the blush that betrayed her thoughts. She leaned over and kissed him still unsure if she was making the right choice, would her love keep him in danger. As she pulled away, she looked into his eyes and noticed they looked like they were on fire, her only thought was wow. She could tell Michael was interested by the bulge against her stomach, and was surprised to find just how strongly she felt about him, but she didn't know if she was ready. She was afraid of what this meant, and should they talk about it first. She wished she had someone to talk too, would it hurt, is she supposed to do something? Closer examination of his face showed her just how tired he really was, and that ended all silent discussion on her virginity. She hit the light switch off on the nightstand, pulled Michael onto his side and wrapped herself in his arms. She whispered, Warrior calm your fire you are mine and I yours. Ava didn’t know where those words came from and continued, Michael you need to sleep, I will stay with you.
Ava eventually felt Michael’s breathing relax, along with his erection, even thou she knew he was trying to be a gentleman about it. Slowly he fell asleep with her snug in his arms, and she watched out the window, while she listened to him breath into her neck. She could see into her room now the sun breached the horizon, the way Michael always saw it, and took comfort in his love all these years. Ava smiled to herself, relieved to get some answers to her questions, but frustrated at all the unanswered ones, but slowly she drifted off to sleep to tired to care.
Brian moved around the two houses shutting things off and locking all the windows. He had many calls to make tonight, making sure Ava and Michael no longer existed to the community. He was very angry to know someone was coming for his kids, but angrier that he couldn’t stay around and wait for the rest of the threat to arrive. Especially after having to dispatch and incinerate the first wave of the attack earlier at the school. He wondered how they found him, wishing he could have interrogated them, not that they gave him much choice. Warriors had an oath to live by, and that oath was not an easy thing to break. His Seer asked him to protect Ava, and Ava asked to go home. This limited his options to one, listen to his Seer and bring her home, no exceptions.
Time seem to move too quickly, Ava kept hearing someone call her name and sat up to find Michael still asleep beside her. She stayed quiet and listened to see if she could hear it again. Nothing but her own racing heart beat, pounding in her ears. She looked over at the clock on the nightstand it read noon. Already, she thought as she got up, got dressed, and headed next door to shower and get changed.
Once she closed the bathroom door and turned on the shower. She looked herself over in the mirror as she undressed. She wondered what Michael thought of her body as she inventoried every ugly feature. Would the sight of her fully nude body repulse him? Quickly showering she washed her hair and wondered if guys erections worked like a light switch, or were they involuntary. She remembered how large his erection was, she didn't remember it being that big when he went skinny dipping in the river. Yet he never really advertised his genitals to her to really get a good look, not that he ever hid from her either. Drying off and getting dressed, she inspected her appearance. She always felt unattractive, when she pictured herself it was never flattering, wondering what Michael saw in her. Her makeup went as far as eye liner and a bit of her favorite lip balm that smelled like vanilla and some body lotion. Good as it going to get she thought as she exited the bathroom.
She should've not been surprised to find Michael sitting on her bed, he could always find her. She smiled at him and said, you really have to stop doing that. He just chuckled and said, you didn't leave me a note, and I saw you anyway through the window. Ava looked around her room, she realized while she was in the shower Michael had packed everything up. Shrugging it off she walked over to him and gave him a quick kiss, willing to follow his lead. Grabbing her jacket, and duffle bag off the bed, grinning to herself when she saw him in the mirror checking out her ass. She wondered if he did this often, or was just now aware of how he felt. He picked up her suitcase and followed her down the stairs, thankful she wasn’t still planning on leaving without him.
Ava watched as Michael placed her bags next to his single duffle bag in the back of Brian’s old jeep truck, the one that was following them last night. She thought how funny, my life fits all nice and neat into two bags. Michael broke Ava's morbid thoughts by kissing her hand and asking do you have everything? Ava couldn't help but laugh. He looked at her with those questioning eyes, like to say what’s so funny? She gave in and said, of course I do you packed it. Michael got the joke and smiled. He liked to watch her laugh, he hasn't heard it in such a long time.
They both heard the roar of Michael’s motorcycle, as Brian pulled it out of the garage. Ava looked over at Brian, and saw the day he dropped it off here and announced, that was your bike. Brian smiled at her and said, I think it's only fair I take it back, you’re taking my jeep. Ava smiled back at him, Michael just shrugged. He was thinking to himself as he opened the truck door for Ava, what’s another secret for her to uncover, soon no one will be able to hide anything from her, and this made him happy. Brian revved the motor and yelled, let’s go before we lose the daylight, peeling off sending dirt and gravel flying. They both gave each other that look that said lets go, and tailed Brian to an unknown place that should be familiar to them, or at least was once upon a time.
Hours passed and Ava kept wondering would I know the estate. Will it be as it once was, or a run-down mess. What would happen when we get there? Michael sensing her unease, squeezed her hand and said, I'm here with you. Ava silently prayed that that would always be true.
Michael couldn’t take his eyes off Ava as she messed with the radio for the first couple hours. There was nothing to see but farm land, trees and open road, so she was an easy distraction. She kept getting frustrated at the radio, it would lose signal the further they drove away from their childhood homes. He could relate to her annoyance, recently breaking his IPod in the woods during his last workout. Music was always a mood stabilizer for them, when things felt out of sync, explaining their mood without saying a word. Out of nowhere Ava startles Michael grabbing his forearm and starts slamming on the horn. Michael pulled the jeep to the side of the darkening road and stopped quickly. Brian had already pulled the bike over the minute he heard the horn, and was running back towards them. Michael and Brian waited for Ava to speak. She blinked and started to laugh confusing the guys. She looked between both men and said, up ahead just beyond that corner, the largest ball of twine is now sitting in the middle of the road. Everyone is fine, Ava said to Brian, and winked at Michael.
They were back on the road, and drove slow right by the ball. It was right were Ava said it would be. Michael took in the surroundings as they passed, wood shards were everywhere, he could see the case it was once housed in was completely destroyed. He noticed only one black car in the parking lot, but no one seemed to be around. Then it hit Michael like a ton of bricks, Ava saw it, we would have been driving by when that ball rolled into the street. Looking at Ava in awe, she noticed and gave him a little grin, and went back to playing with the radio.
Hours later Brian pulled into a motel off the highway, nothing to fancy, but it was secluded. They got two rooms, and made sure to go across the street and refuel the tanks, at the deserted station. Once inside their room, Michael grabbed the pizza restaurants menu off the door, and ordered some food to be delivered. Ava checked out the room and tried to ignore Michael and his come hither eyes. It was no use, he was just so damn good looking. So she decided it best to leave and wait for the food to arrive, and went to talk to Brian. She had a thousand questions, but something has been bothering her since they left the house.
She entered his room after knocking, and got a surprise when she saw him coming out of a steamy bathroom, wearing only a pair of unbuttoned jeans. She turned around quickly and cursed her sight for not giving her a heads up, but saw enough to see where Michael gets his looks from. Brian said her name, and she turned around, glad to see he had slid on a white cotton tee, and said let me guess you have more questions. She smiled at him glad he wasn't making it weird, and said yes, just one actually. Brian chuckled and said really, only one, must be a good question. What about our mothers, She asked? Brian studied her, trying to figure out which mothers she was asking about. I've already talked to them both, while you were sleeping. I've made other arrangements for them, they will be fine and well provided for. Brian watched the stress fall off Ava's face, glad he could ease some of her worry. Ava thanked Brian and said, I'm glad you thought to talk to them, I wouldn't want a van full of men to pull up and scare them, or worse use them against me. I know I should feel sad for leaving our surrogates, but I never really felt any attachment to the women. Brian nodded at Ava and said, I’m truly sorry about that, it was all by design, those women were just guardians in name, nothing more.
She knew she told him only one question, but another seemed to pop into her head. Brian saw a question play on her lips, so he smiled and said, go ahead and ask dearest. She smiled at him and said, I don't mean to be rude but, where is the money coming from? I know you were a teacher of sorts, but that can't pay much. Brian considered her question and figured he should tell her a little about her family. Ava you are wealthy, your funds have no limit. Brian could see the questions burning in her eyes, so he kept talking. Your family has always put themselves in the right investments for at least a hundred years, maybe more. Your family estate is in the great woods of New Hampshire. It is located in the middle of nowhere, so it can be easily hidden and hard to find. It has been preserved for you, by my mother Ida. She loves the place, she has lived there almost her entire life. That seems very nice of her, Ava said unsure. Don't worry dearest Ava, you will see soon for yourself, Ida has been waiting on you and Michael to return for thirteen years.
Michael came in the room, with a half-eaten slice of pizza in his mouth. He carried the boxes over and set them down on the table by the window. They all settled in for some food, and conversation. Half way through Ava's second slice, she was abruptly pulled into a vision, dropping her pizza onto the floor. Ava spoke out loud, a van just pulled up to the house, their early. Both men went silent, ending their conversation on the latest weapons. They can see no one is home, they look angry. Ava could almost hear the water in her yard, the smell of the flowers. She watched frightened as the men piled out of the van. There seems to be two men and a person in a black hooded long jacket, I can't see who it is. There splitting up around the house, why can’t I see Ava questioned. Brian stiffened, he watched this same scenario before. Ava snapped back to Michael and Brian, she was so upset she couldn't see more. Feeling defeated and a little unhelpful, Ava excused herself and went to take a shower before bed. No reason to ruin Michael and Brains bonding time, if she could help it.
Brian should we go back Michael eagerly urged, we have the advantage, Ava’s away and safe now. No, Brian replied before Michael got any ideas. Why not Michael asked getting worked up. Brian could see Michael’s whole posture and mood change, readying for a fight. Michael we cannot go back, Ava needs us to take her home to the ESTATE, emphasizing on the word estate so not to leave any loop holes. Yes but Michael began angrily, when Brian cut him off. Son you are only this upset because if I had to guess, Ava is upset. Maybe for right now your talents would be otherwise useful in aiding your Seer. Brian wasn't going to tell him it was because Ava saw him fall. Yet was it because they didn't leave in time, or because they go back. Either way his son was safe, and he kept his word to Charles.
The water was hot, and Ava let it soak deep in her soul. She needed this, a place alone to gather her thoughts. She was letting herself get so worked up, why can’t I see more, what’s wrong with me? Female and not Male Seer? How long can we run, would I make it through the change? She let her thoughts boil over, she was so scared and angry at the same time. All this new information left her frustrated and confused, all she wanted right now was Michael to tell her everything would be okay.
The shower curtain pulled aside and Michael appeared like she wished it into fruition. Shocked at first by Michael’s abruptness, slowly melted away as she took in all of his naked glory with her eyes. He was heart stopping gorgeous, there was no part of Michael Ava didn't want to devour. These feelings were so new and undeniable, she needed to find a way to express what she wanted. Ava slowly soaped up her hands and began to wash Michael without thinking. She needed him, needed to touch him, and be distracted from her out of control thoughts.
Starting at his defined shoulders, moving down his chest. Ava watched as Michael shut his eyes and groaned savoring her touch, giving her the distraction she needed. She could see she was exciting him when his member joined the party giving her a little confidence boost. When he finally opened his eyes, with a look that commanded a thousand pussies to heel. She wanted to obey him, her entire body felt like it was on fire, and he was the remedy to heal that burn. Before she could react Michael lifted Ava and carried her into their bed without saying a word. He kissed her, making her feel like she was the only women in the world. She couldn’t stop touching him as he kissed her neck and repositioned himself over her. She knew he was giving her the option to say no as he caressed her breasts using his teeth to nibble on her nipples giving them a gentle tug. Hissing at the sensation she never gave it a thought, lost in the sensation of his touch. She needed him just as much as he needed her right now, so she spread her legs and accepted what he had to offer, letting out a cry of pleasurable pain. He was gentle yet confident, she didn't need to say anything, like he knew what she needed.
Michael for once in his life wasn't thinking and just let his body lead the pace. Part of him wanted to grasp her tightly and give her every hard inch as fast as possible, waiting forever to be inside her. Every time he felt himself losing control, her eyes whispered 'gently Warrior. 'Neither knew or cared where they would end up, all that mattered as they took their friendship into uncharted territory, was they had each other.
The sun barely started to rise in the eastern. sky when Ava heard her name being called again, over and over in a sing song woman’s voice. Ava slowly began to rise when she heard it again for a final time, faintly before all went silent. She swung her legs out off the side of the bed, and smiled as the nights events flooded back. She was not going to let some creepy voice ruin her mood, or her memory of her first time. She wasn’t hurting, but felt kind of soar in a good way. She was glad it was with her Michael, he was amazingly gentle as he led the pace, leaving nothing to complain about. If anything she wanted to do it again and again, like a hunger she couldn’t quench. He looked so peaceful she didn’t have the heart to wake him, instead she got dressed and ready for the days trip, and left a note for him on her pillow.
Next door with dad, Love A
Brian opened the door on the first knock, and said good morning Dearest sleep well. Slyly Ava smiled and said very well thank you, breakfast? Brian opened the door wide, showing the spread of coffee and donuts that replaced the pizza from the night before. She helped herself to a plain donut, breaking it in half and dunking it in her coffee, before taking a bite. Brian, Ava asked in-between swallows, is it much longer until we get to the estate? Only two days more depending on weather and any hazards you might see in our way, he answered. Ava looked out the window and wondered if she’d ever get all her answers. The birds in the distance were flying around in a swarm, making the most beautiful patterns in the sky. She wondered if the birds could communicate or just programmed to know when to move in formation to keep such tight grouping. She had to admit they were the most mesmerizing tranquil display of artistry in flight.
Brian watched Ava, when she smiled it was breathtakingly beautiful. He could see her parents in her features, little things like Sarah’s smile and Charles cheek bones and eyes. Looking at her he could see the little girl he ran with thirteen years ago, and relieved he’s kept her safe. Only a couple more days and he will have fulfilled his Seers request. Michael was ready, a little bruised by the truth, but nothing his son couldn’t overcome. He just hoped Ava was ready, this was his only regret in raising her. He couldn’t prepare her for her gifts, only a Seer could do that.
Overall Wisconsin was nice, but Ava couldn't wait to hit the road. She thanked Brian for breakfast and went to wake Michael. She was not expecting to see him awake when she opened the door, it was a classic case of Deja vu. There he was coming out of the shower, nude, bathroom door wide open. She quickly shut the outside door and turned to see him smiling at her. Michael could see he made Ava blush as he exited the bathroom, drying his hair. He couldn’t help smile relieved to see with his own eyes, that he didn’t hurt her last night after his unprovoked attack. He didn’t know what came over him, his mind was jumbled when he woke and found her gone, thinking he crossed the invisible boundary line. In Ava’s simple way with a few handwritten words in her note, Love A, let him know she didn’t hate him.
Ava could feel Michael’s emotions as he dried himself, at first she thought her unease was her own, but now closer to Michael, she could feel it was him. She didn’t like him feeling even a little unhappy, even if they were on the run. She needed that smile back from moments ago, that heart stopping come hither, I want you smile. So she walked over to his naked frame, grabbed him and kissed him, trying to explain everything in that moment. The second he grabbed her back and intensified the kiss, this current started to run through their bodies. She couldn't help but think how much he thrilled her, and couldn’t get the will to let him go to remove her clothes. Michael couldn’t help get aroused at her touch, everything in his being was reaching out to her. He thought he was going crazy when he swore he heard her in his mind say a faint yes, almost making him forget to be gentle.
The phone rang breaking their body’s vertical conversation, giving Michael time to regroup, and reluctantly get his priorities in check. Ava answered the phone and watched disappointed as Michael got dressed, and packed up their room to leave. Ava if my kid isn’t up, tell him I will tie his leg to the bike and drag him out of bed, he said into the receiver. Michael grabbed the phone and said I’m up old man don’t get your boxers in a bunch. That’s hard to do Brian replied, considering I’m not wearing any. Too much info Michael said amused by his father’s admission, and hung up the phone.
It wasn't long before breakfast was over, and the car was packed. This new sense of comradery between Michael and Brian was nice to see, and easy to be engulfed in. The relationship was always there, now they could just keep building off of it with the truth.
The sky clouded over as they finally entered New York, putting a gloom over the city, blocking out what little sun was left on the horizon. Michael was singing along with one of his dads cd's in the jeep. He always listened to music, and played songs that were meaningful to him. Ava found his voice soothing, and began to doze off as he sang along with the song.
{Music lyrics} Boy don't you worry, you'll find yourself. Follow your heart and nothing else.
Ava started to hear her name being called again, as the voice got louder and sat up abruptly in her seat confused. Michael stopped singing at once, and waited for Ava to say something. She waited, listening to hear if she could still hear it, nothing. Ava turned to Michael and said, every time I go to sleep I hear a woman’s voice calling my name.
Michael instantly went on guard, and started to collect information which meant questions for her. He started with, do you recognize the voice? Ava thought about it and said, NO. This happens every time you sleep he continued? Yes, Ava replied. Then why Ava, have you not told me this before Michael asked annoyed? Ava got a little defensive and replied, because Michael, if you haven't noticed we are on the run. At first I thought it was only a dream, but just now, I was only dozing listening to you sing, and I heard it again like it was right next to me. This of course upset Michael, she watched him get all tense. She knew what he was thinking, that someone is not going to get that close. She did the only thing that worked on Michael when he was like this, and talked to him changing the subject. I think, we should stop for supplies don't you? We should be able to blend right in, be invisible, there are so many people, and we wouldn't even leave a trail. He didn't fall for the bait, he gave her a little grin but kept driving, brooding.
Ava watched the clouds get thicker and thicker, you couldn't see anything in front of your face due to the fog, making the sky look menacing. Highway 90 seemed to be the longest, most boring stretch of road to drive on. The only upside to this forever trip thru New York was its cuisine, delicious. The city was crowded and very loud. Brian suggested we stay in a nice hotel instead of something off the highway, but opted for a Holiday Inn instead when Ava protested to the expense. Brian wasn’t going to argue about money, there was no point, he knew his dearest Ava was a simple girl.
They all lounged around watching the illusionist, the one with Edward Norton, it was a great love story. Ava cried at the end, when the two long lost loves finally make it in each other’s arms, after a constant struggle of people standing in their way. Michael smiled and hugged Ava and said, don't worry love if he can make her disappear, I think I can keep you hidden and safe from the idiots chasing you. Ava laughed, she loved that Michael could lighten any mood and make her feel safe.
At the end of the news broadcast Brian told Ava if all goes well, you should be home by tomorrow night. She was excited to explore her roots, but nervous about what she might see there. The rain started to pick up from a drizzle, to a full blown thunderstorm. They couldn't go anywhere until it stopped, so they called it a night, and decided to wait it out. They ordered in Chinese takeout, it wasn't too bad. They didn’t eat out much usually, so this trip had its perks. Later that night Michael could feel Ava's unease about going to sleep, he knew she was freaked out about the woman’s voice. So he tucked her into the safety of his arms and twisted a lock of her hair gently around his finger, until they both drifted off to sleep.
Michael woke first the next morning and looked outside, it was still drizzling and cloudy. He called over to his dad’s room, Brian picked up on the first ring. Brian, um Dad, we are going to leave in a couple hours, the weather is still shitty and Ava is sleeping in. That should give it time to blow over so we can hit the road. Brian agreed with his son, almost falling apart at hearing him finally calling him dad. Michael continued, I know you enjoy riding my bike, but I think today we should switch. I know you have got to be soar after not riding it all these years. Brian laughed and said, yeah it's been a while. I don't understand why we had to bring the bike in the first place, Michael asked. A couple different reasons Michael, Brian corrected. One, Ava's dad gave me that bike when we were younger. Secondly, you never know when you’re going to need a plan B, always be prepared. Michael could appreciate his father’s thinking. Thirdly, Lately I have been feeling a pull back towards Ohio, Brian admitted. What does that mean dad, Michael asked? I don't know son, I was hoping Ava could help me after her ascend. I haven't felt that pull since before Charles died. Michael was feeling conflicted, he didn't know where this left them. Alright, Michael said dropping his voice low because Ava was stirring, I guess for now we will have to wait and find out. Deal with it when we have to right, thanks for telling me. Brian replied with, give me a shout when you’re ready to leave I'll be ready, and he hung up the phone.
New Hampshire is a small state, the cities in the southern part were loud and crowded. If you liked the bar scene this was the place to be. The north was quiet, simple, and peaceful. They have been on the road all day, only stopping once to refuel, and eat lunch at a local diner, making great time. It was getting late when Ava started to notice the landscape change in front of her eyes. Showing her what was as they drove by. Michael felt Ava's body tense as she held onto the back of his shirt. He started to slow down to pull over when she said, I'm okay, keep going. She leaned over and wrapped her arms back around Michael and began to tell him all she was seeing in his ear. All the old wooden shops and houses were gone, a new strip mall was in its place. Ava described the beauty of all the old farms that use to be around, but were all deserted or ripped apart by new developments that never last.
This was all exciting and sad. Ava's emotions kept getting wrapped up in what she was seeing as they drove through a deserted town. She was starting to get upset and felt like they were never going to make it to the estate, when Brian and Michael pulled over at the end of the paved road. Funny Ava thought as she got off the bike, we found the road to nowhere. Off to one side Ava saw a rundown barn. Brian got out of the jeep with a duffel bag and handed it to Michael. Leave the bike and bag here in the barn. Michael looked at his father, all Brian said was, PLAN B.
Michael did what he was asked, and jumped into the front seat of the truck as Brian pulled away. Ava noticed the road didn't end after all. It was hidden by overgrown plants and trees, but it was there, a lonely dirt road. She closed her eyes getting a headache from the constant array of emotions attacking her. She heard Brian tell Michael if anything goes wrong, get Ava to the barn. She thought in two days Michael and I will be eighteen. She was terrified at the thought of having to go through some sort of change. How, Ava thought am I supposed to do this, if I can't even control what I see now? It seemed to take forever to drive through the woods to the estate, the anticipation painfully thrilling. She couldn't grasp time right now, with each blink she opened her eyes she would lose track and see things she didn’t want too, so she kept them closed which didn’t help much.
Finally hearing Brian’s voice, Ava opened her eyes and listened as he said, look Ava, Michael, it hasn't changed a day. Ava exhaled relieved to see the landscape stayed the same. The gardens were gorgeous and filled the air with the most wonderful aromas. The house was lost in time, like something out of an old movie. Ava loved it. As they winded through the trees, up the dirt driveway into a clearing, Ava saw the porch. She remembered seeing Michael in a vision, laughing on this same porch. Ava gawked at the house. It was massive, white, with what seemed like a dome lighthouse beacon tower sticking out of the top. Maybe not a tower but it had so many windows it could be. She followed the lines of the house down to the railings, which seemed to wrap almost completely around it. There on the porch sat an old woman, with white hair and glasses, rocking in a chair, holding what looks to be a shot gun in her lap. The longer Ava watched the old woman, the more she changed. Ava witnessed with mild agitation as the old woman grew younger and younger, then slowly change back into and old woman. I guess Ava saw all she was supposed to see, because nothing else happened. She figured, what you see, is what you get with this lady, and liked that about her, before they even got to meet. She didn’t know how to feel about her sight acting funny, the whole trip the closer they got, the weirder her curse intensified. What is it about this place Ava thought?
The old woman stood up, and said about time son, I've been waiting on you all day. The sun is nearly all gone, you’re not supposed to keep and old woman waiting. Brian jumped down from the jeep, into the grass, and said sorry mom, the weather held us up. Ava watched as Brian smiled and hugged his mother, genuinely happy to see each other. Then Ava remembered her name and whispered, Michael that is Ida, your paternal grandmother.
Ava and Michael watched as Brian came to life here around his mother, he looked younger, more casual, and energized. Ava didn't think Ida's smile could get any bigger, that was of course, until she looked at Michael. It was like someone flipped a switch on in her soul. Ava grabbed Michaels hand and led the way to the porch. She could feel Michael was uncomfortable, so she took the lead and walked over to Ida with a smile on her face and hugged her. Thank you so much Miss Ida for taking such good care of our house, Ava spoke honestly. Ida held her hand, and Ava could see her eyes water under her glasses as she said softly, this is your house Dearest one. Please call me gran, if you want to, you and Michael use to call me that. If I had one wish it would be that we act like you never left. Ava hugged her again and whispered, I'll try my best gran, and I hope it will be enough. Ida released her and said, it will be Dearest, your home now.
Ava stepped aside next to Brian, to give Ida full view of her prize. Brian was smiling so big bursting with pride as he watched his mother inspect his son. Ava looked to Michael, he looked like he'd rather be anywhere but here right now. She couldn't help it, and started giggling. Michael, a man who would take down an army for her, was helpless in the hands of this little old lady. Brian must have got Ava's silent joke, because he too began to chuckle.
Ida had made a stew for dinner, the kitchen smelled of roasted potatoes and lamb. The table set up for four, proving she had been waiting a while. It was nice Ava thought to herself as she watched the family, like we never left. The conversation was entertaining. To Ava, this is what a family dinner should look like. Ida was leaning in, fully engaged in what Brian was saying, her sleeve very close to absorbing the stew, because she stopped mid bite. It was relaxing after being on the road all day, to just listen to Brian tell his mother all about Michael’s accomplishments since the last time they talked. The pride just rolled right off him infecting his mother, until there facial expressions matched. Of course Michael was eating with his head down, listening to his dads MP3 player wishing they would change the subject. Ava couldn’t help but feel for him, Michael wasn’t the type of guy who liked to brag.
Ava got distracted, she kept thinking she was seeing things move in the shadows. She stood up forgetting all about her surroundings, and began to walk out of the room to investigate. She was sure someone was just standing there, her body following behind like she was being pulled. She felt a tug on her hand and turned, and saw Michael. Ava was surprised, she blinked and took a look around the room, and everyone was staring at her. Michael feeling Ava's unease spoke up, it's been a long day gran, and I think Ava and I should get some sleep. Where do you want us to stay?
Ida looked at Michael with loving concern and said, it's your house stay were ever you want. I suggest you start in your old rooms tonight, and tomorrow you and Ava can decide what you want to do. I have no say in that.
Brian gave them a quick tour of the house as he led them to their bedrooms. He expectantly opened a door and stepped aside, allowing Ava to walk in with Michael. At first glance the room was basic, no color a blank slate. It was only what Ava could see that bothered her, the room was purple at one time, just like her room out West. Toys and dolls lined every inch of the room, with a large replica of the estate for a doll house. She was startled when a man and woman would flash in and out of her sight, and move around the room, too blurry for her to see who they really were. She didn't like this at all, made her eyes burn and her head ache. Closing her eyes and squeezing Michael’s hand, Ava took some deep cleansing breathes. When she opened her eyes again, everything was back to being boring and plain, and Michael was smiling at her.
Ava walked over to a door and opened it to feel normal, thinking closet, Nope. Brian spoke up and said, Michael’s room. Ava thought how funny, no catwalk needed here, and let the boys go through first, and watched Michael explore. The room was basic like hers. The only difference was this room was full of gear, weapons and books. Michael’s eyes lit up with excitement like it was Christmas morning. He walked around the room picking up and examining everything that wasn't nailed down. Every time you mastered a new weapon, or finished a book, I would bring one here for you Brian said, watching his son examine everything. I made all the shelving myself and installed them when I came home to visit. Ava ogled Michael as he circled the room, she saw a smile play on his lips, and knew he was secretly pleased to hear his father was paying attention to all his hard work.
Ava took this time to really look at his room. There seem to be no shadows, maybe a shimmer letting her know what his room use to be like, no big surprise green like back home. Relieved to see nothing else, Ava decided she was not leaving this room tonight. First night in a new place, she was staying with Michael. Turning to him she said, I can stay in here with you? Michael gave her a look that said, like you need to ask, followed by that sly grin she loved so much. She didn't want to know what he was thinking because she didn’t want to get pulled in to his desires yet, so Ava turned around to ask Brian were he would be sleeping, and stopped.
One look told her something was horribly wrong with him. His face looked as if he was in extreme pain, but he was making no sound, not moving at all. Ava screamed in shock and stepped back from him, surprised by what she witnessed. Michael spun around so fast and stood with his back against her before he scanned the room and saw his father. Michael grabbed him so hard by the shoulders, and screamed look at me dad, LOOK AT ME. Ava could see the struggle in Brian’s face and body to respond to his son. So Ava did the same thing she did in the school locker room, and reached out with her curse to feel Brian’s emotions. She still didn’t know if she could do it again on demand but tried anyway, this was important. She could almost feel his pain and fear, but it was masked by a strength she has never felt before, then it happened. She saw Brian standing there, but it looked like his spirit or soul was trying to pull out of his body.
Ava felt helpless and scared as she watched Brian’s struggle to keep himself together, she felt Michael’s desperation to help his father against what he couldn't see. She was overwhelmed with a surge of anger, then everything changed. Intensified emotions took over her, strong and powerful, she could feel it grow within her. The walls seemed to stretch and bend around her, and a flash of what she needed to do filled her being until she had to move, as she heard the words she needed to say to him. Going over to Brian and shoving Michael out of the way. She looked Brian in the face, pulled as much strength as she could find and said in a demanding voice that she has never heard before. Regent Brian, Warrior, I demand you look at me. As she spoke the words, she felt stronger, the house seem to be listening to her, lending its knowledge. I am Charles Nostradams daughter. His blood is my own. You will hear and respond to my call to arms. Warrior you owe me a debt. You owe me, my father.
Brian could hear her words, feel Charles call through his daughters pounding heart. Ava watched as Brian struggled to pull himself together. She could see him trying to respond to her, but she could also see his spirit pulling and tearing towards the door.
Michael was shocked at how Ava was talking to his father, after everything he did for them. But this was Ava, his Ava, she would never hurt him. What’s wrong, I don't understand what this is, what’s happening here Ava, Talk to me. Ava did not respond to Michael. She was watching Brian do battle of his own. Slowly she witnessed him win this internal struggle and pull himself back together, leaving them both breathless.
Ava turned to Michael and said in a very small voice, I'm sorry, I didn't mean a word of it. Ava took another gulp of air and said, I swear Michael your father owes me nothing. I had to say it. Michael hugged her and asked what just happened. Ava told him everything she saw. He decided this was the time to tell Ava about his phone call with his dad that morning.
Brian turned to Michael and said in labored breaths that all is well son, for now, Ava saved me. Brian grabbed her and hugged her so tightly, she was just like her father, so selfless. Michael could see Brian looked like he'd been through hell, and felt a little shaken about what just happened, because he couldn’t see it powerless to help.
Ida came into the room, took her son by the hand and said, I need to tell you all something’s that would probably explain what is happening here, but tonight dearests please get some sleep. I'll keep Brian with me, we will talk in the morning. Michael walked over to his father and hugged him tightly, feeling the sweat from his father’s ordeal. Brian hugged him back and stepped away, saying I will see you in the morning son. He followed his mother out of the room, Ida stopped to shut the door behind him, and Michael bent low and kissed her on the cheek. He didn't want to hug her, the way he was feeling he was afraid to break her.
When the door shut, Michael turned around to Ava to talk things out to calm himself. He didn’t say a word, because she slowly began to get undressed and completely disarmed him. Once her panties hit the floor and she sauntered over to him, giving him an instant hard on. Wrapping her arms around his neck she pulled him into a deep kiss as she grasped his erection. Michael felt so stressed and needed her to grant him this release. Bending her over the desk against the wall, he kissed her shoulder blade pausing to give her a chance to resist. When she reached back and tugged his balls, he pushed her down lower using his leg to spread hers and gave her every inch in one deep thrust. After that the only coherent thought Michael had as Ava soothed his soul with her vagina was, always listen to your Seer.
That next morning they went down to breakfast, Brian and Ida were nowhere to be found. So after eating some fruit from the bowl on the table, they explored the estate room by room on the first floor. Ava did all the talking, the house seemed to have a lot to say. She explained how all the rooms seemed full at times to her, every room had shadows and glimmers that seem to move and shift around the house. Ava could swear she could see people come in and out of view, but she couldn't focus on the jumble of things happening all at once in front of her.
Michael could see she was desperate to figure it out, he could feel her tense and struggle with it. So he suggested she try and focus on one thing at a time. Ava was frustrated with herself for not thinking of that, and focused on a glimmer by the window. She saw an old man come into view, and he simply walked over and shut the window, then he was gone. This gave Ava a chance to try again, with a little more confidence. By lunch time, Ava had mastered how to communicate with her house. She was able to see, feel and smell all of its secrets. Some she saw were of ancestors telling her to remember to shut the windows, and close doors. Others were of glimmers of what a person was like or where there favorite spots in the house was. Along with a lot of secret cubby holes and cabinets, making some of the exploration exciting for Michael.
After lunch Ida showed up carrying a small box, Brian following dutifully behind her. We had a busy morning, Ida spoke to them. Sorry for our delay. I hope you kids kept yourselves occupied in our absence, flashing that same sly grin Michael and Brian seem to inherit. Now she said all business, sitting in her chair that Brian pushed under her as she sat down. I have been talking with my son, he has told me about his symptoms leading up to last night. I put that together with that wonderful speech you said to him. Ava dropped her head ashamed of what she said. Michael squeezed her hand, and Ava looked up to see Ida smiling at her. Ava felt relieved, no one seem to be mad at her for that outburst.
Ida placed a small box in front of Ava, and said your triggers dearest. Ava just stared at Ida, she had no idea what she was talking about. Ida seeing Ava's confusion looked to Brian disappointingly for answers. Seeing his hurt pleading expression, she understood, the kids knew only a sliver of their past. These items Ida finally said are from different people, places and times. Sometimes Seers can hold something and see the secrets and stories that have imprinted on them. I'm sure by now your house has been trying to communicate with you. Ida could see Ava’s apprehension and continued, if not my dearest one, don’t fret, things will eventually reveal itself in due course.
Michael gently squeezed Ava’s hand for support when Ida started talking again. This is why we were delayed, I was trying to find these items for you, so you could better understand what’s happening, and see for yourself. What if I can’t, Ava whispered looking at the plain white box and back at Ida? My dearest I have no doubt in your abilities, only you can decide your true strength. Ava could see this family trusted Ida and her advice. She never left this house, she doesn't need to help me, so why is she Ava thought? Ida took that moment to reach over and brush Michael’s hair out of his eyes with her fingers, smiling at him, drinking him in. Ava saw it, the Love and loyalty she had for her boys, that’s why she stayed here alone with the past.
Ida lifted the box and dumped the contents on to the table in front of her. Michael got up from his chair, and stood behind Ava placing his hand gently on her shoulder. He always did this, she assumed it was so he could be close just in case something happened, or maybe just to show support. Either way Ava loved him for it. Looking at the items, they seemed to glimmer for her to pick one. She decided on a photo. Ida told her that is a photo of your grandfather Michael, Seer, taken right before he died. Ava focused on the picture, nothing happened.
Ida saw a single tear slip down Ava’s cheek and said oh my, dearest one I’m sorry. Michael sat down beside Ava and wiped the tear away waiting for her to look at him. Brian went to move and comfort Ava when Ida grabbed his arm to wait. Michael smiled and lifted her chin to look at him, it’ll be okay Love we don’t need to do this now. Michael I don’t know if I want to do this, I can’t control what I see. Michael scooted close to Ava wrapping his arm around her, squeezing her tightly like she likes. Then we wait, he replied picking up the picture to look at it and said, I don’t know if I’d want to see what secrets this guy’s hiding. The second Michael said that Ava’s whole body seized and she yelled, I see him. Michael waited for her to say something more but Ava stayed silent, leaving him staring at his family across from him. Brian looked calm on the outside, but his eyes betrayed his worry. Ida sat still and quiet watching Ava, nodding along like she could see what Ava was seeing with a knowing smile planted on her face. Michael wondered why Ida searched for these particular stories to tell, how was this Michael Seer guy connected to what’s happening to his father.
He was Brian’s age, maybe a little older Ava observed gathering information for Michael. Her grandfather was holding two cocooned babies. One child was wrapped in a blue blanket with the letter C embroidered into the corner of it. The other child was in a pink blanket with the letter E. Before Ava could think about it, she was back sitting in the kitchen, Michael still holding her.
Gran, was that my father Charles Ava asked a little out of breath? Ida just nodded. So he had a twin sister Ava pushed? Ida just nodded again with a controlled smile. Michael and Brian stiffened their posture at Ava’s new information. There shock pulled Ava into an involuntary flashback of Brian being torn apart. Michael feeling the change in Ava squeezed her shoulder firmly, and she snapped back in the room.
Ida pointed to another trigger, a metal baby rattle to keep Ava focused. As soon as Ava touched the rattle she was transported to a bedroom upstairs. She has never been in this room before, but she could see the garden out the window. Ava looked around the room and saw the rattle laying on a dresser by a crib. The room was decked out in pink and flowers painted on the walls. Ava got closer to the crib and saw a small pillow that had the name Emma sewn into it. Ava said the name out loud, EMMA. When she did she felt a hot pain slash her arm and the whole room spun and kept spinning until it was a blur of color. Ava closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Exhaling slowly she opened her eyes, and was standing by the river back in Montana. A hooded figure turned around and lowered their hood, and showed her face. Ava was shocked to see a woman standing in front of her, all she could do is stare at her. She was older but beautiful, dark blonde hair and brown eyes like hers. Ava called out the name again, and she was spun out and returned to the kitchen.
Ava looked at Ida and asked, why is my Aunt trying to kill me? I don't even know her. How does she know me? Before anyone answered her questions, Michael was holding a rag to Ava’s bleeding arm. What the hell Ava yelled feeling the sting. The price you pay for the gifts we receive Ida said flatly. There are consequences to using your gifts she continued. Why didn’t you tell me Michael roared pissed off, reacting to seeing Ava bleed? This gift of blood to your ancestors is a small penance to pay to learn the truth, is it not my dear Ida answered sympathetically. Ava nodded and gave Michael a small smile while Ida pointed to the final trigger, a pink blanket. Ava once again focused on the blanket, right away Ava saw her grandfather clutching the blanket crying. All Ava could make out through the sobs was, I had to, I had to.
Ida started talking, pulling her back out of her vision. Ava felt hurt, betrayed, and just down right devastated. Her feelings were muddled together with the feelings of the people in her visions. Confused and worn out she focused on Ida's words to keep herself from screaming. He sent her away to Louisiana to live with my sister Ann-Marie. Why, was all Ava could say? Ida looked serious, when she began to talk again. I was in labor with my Brian when Charles was born, everyone was so happy they delivered safely. Emma you see was a surprise, no one knew, she wasn't born until hours later. None of us knew that twins was a bad thing, it has never happened before to our knowledge. That next morning I lost my best friend Shirleen. She had complications during child birth, she never got to hold her children. So I did my best to help your grandfather raise her babies. As they all grew, they were healthy and happy all except Emma. The boys excelled, there bond was strong, but Emma always stayed by herself, only playing with the animals.
So when it was time for the boys to go to school, your grandfather sent Emma away. He knew she was unhappy and he couldn't see how to fix it. So he figured maybe moving her to my sisters, and isolating her with my family, maybe she would bloom and find her way without any pressure. I only know what he told me, when he asked this favor. I didn't question your grandfather’s motives. I figured him being Supreme, he'd know what was best for his own daughter, so I just did as he asked. My sister came and picked her up, and that was the last time I saw Emma. He kept tabs on her, set up investment accounts in her name, so she would have plenty of money and not want for anything. He tried to keep her happy, but as she got older she withdrew further. That was until she turned eighteen. Emma lost it, burned down my sister’s house, and disappeared. Your grandfather didn't know she was a Seer. It was always only men, women never got the gift. So we all assumed she was normal never taking the twin factor into account.
Ava had enough, she felt overwhelmed and started to sob. Her feelings were not her own there was too much pain. How much does this family have to lose, and give up? Ava saw the whole picture, she knew what was happening to Brian now. Ida was watching Ava, she was nodding along with all the silent connections she was making in her head. Your family Seer blood, Ida said for her boy’s sake, is calling out to the only available Warrior now his oath is fulfilled. Unanswered this long, you get my Brian’s symptoms, he has no choice. He either answers or dies, either way his soul will split and leave an empty shell behind. Ava could not listen anymore, she already saw this. She knew what was going to happen next, and listening to Ida calmly talk about death was too much. She stood up, pushed Michael away and said, don’t you see? I told you to leave me, now look what has happened. Ava's vision started to blur, she had time to say one last thing before she blacked out and hit the floor. WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME?
Michael was stunned, Ava has never acted like this. He picked her up off the floor, and carried her to his room and laid her on the bed. He sat with her for a few minutes just listening to her breath, and watch her body calm, before he left the room upset. What did Ava see, what is she not telling me? Michael entered the kitchen and glared at his father, hands balled into tight fists at his side. Why didn't you tell me, Michael spoke in a growl? I didn't know until now son, same as you. I don't remember her at all, Brain pleaded. So what does this mean Michael barked? What did Ava see, why is she so upset that she would dare question my love for her? AND will someone please explain to me why she is passed out in my fuck'n room, raising his voice with every unanswered question.
Ida cut off whatever Brian was going to say with a flip of her hand, making Michael focus on her. Michael she said, you belong to Ava, and she belongs to you. Your souls have been attached since conception. Think how she makes you feel. How you complete each other entirely. How she pulls on your heart and soul. Now grandson picture all that you feel, and have it unanswered. How would you feel not having Ava as your center? For forty years Emma has been alone, searching for her equal. Your Ava was lucky, you were born just for her. Your father has a duel bond we didn't know about, that changes things. Now that our Charles is gone, the bond has been slowly transferring to Emma now that Ava is coming of age and has her own Warrior. Your father has no choice.
Michael saw a big problem with this new development. Already putting things together. So where does this leave us dad? I don't know son, but I will stay with you as long as I can. Hopefully make it through until Ava's change tomorrow. I will stand beside you son, if you want me too. Michael looked at his father, he could see the pain and devotion written all over his face. Dad I love you, I’ll never be able to tell you how much, but I belong to Ava, and you now belong to her enemy. I don't know what this means for us, but I will stand with my Ava, and you must go to Emma. I'd rather lose you in my life, then watch you die because of me. Michael got silent for only a moment before he looked at his father with renewed confidence. I don't know what Emma wants with Ava, but if she tries to hurt her, I will kill her. Brian, so proud of his son, looked him in the face and said, then I will have no choice but to answer that threat.
Michael was crushed, he knew he had to say goodbye, and he also knew one day they might have to be enemies. He had just found him, he didn't want to deal with losing him again. Then he understood what Ava was seeing. Will you still love me? Michael looked at his father and said, Ava knew, she saw this. She knew I would choose her.
Ida smiled at her grandson with that loving concern and said softly, Ava never asked you to choose, your Warrior made that choice for you. She only asked, would you still love her once you've reconciled with your choice. So do you still love her? Michael was outraged they would even ask him that question, so he replied, I will die for her one day. Ida and Brian had nothing but pride in their hearts for Michael, he was everything he was supposed to become. Ida's smiling face had only one thing to say, tell her. Brian walked over to his son and pulled him into a hug. When they finally separated Brian turned to his mother and said, I need to leave now. Ida grabbed her only child, and hugged him, she didn’t know what would come next, but she had faith that he would fulfill his oath and return home again one day. Brian bent low and kissed her cheek. Ida held her sons hand a minute more and said, I know son, you come back to me soon. Then she let him go, which broke her heart. She knew she had too, her Brian no matter the price, will pay it willingly to set the example to how they live. Brian took one last look at his son and walked out the back door, yelling over his shoulder, I'm taking plan B.
Ida hugged Michael and said, I hope you see just how much your father loves you. I’m trying Michael said, unsure what else he could say to comfort her. Ida nodded accepting his honest answer and asked, do you have any idea how powerful and fragile your Seer is becoming. Just with what I’ve been told and witnessed, I can tell our dearest one is going to exceed our expectation, but none of that means anything Michael, if you’re not prepared to keep her grounded and protected. Gran please, I’m trying to learn on the fly, nothing is what it seems. Exactly Ida said tapping his nose with her finger. Michael waited for her to elaborate, when she didn’t, he left the kitchen instead of lashing out at her in frustration. None of this was her doing there was no point to an argument, his Grandmother didn’t understand just how much he loves Ava. He was all mixed up with information, trying to make sense of the past, and how it’s relevant to their present. Knowing and hearing a threat is out there against them spiked his adrenaline, making him feel this rage he never knew before. He couldn’t face Ava yet like this, and walked out the front door, he needed to calm down.
Ida hated this, both her boys on different sides of the same family, especially after all these years of waiting to be reunited. Wiping away a stray traitorous tear Ida pulled herself together. She was a Warrior wife, mother and now grandmother, once again she needed to put her selfish wants aside and be strong. She raised a great man, Brian always holds true to his oath, and she knew he raised Michael in that image. He would have trained his son to be able to defeat any threat, even if that meant from himself. Her boy would die before raising a hand to Michael, his last living heir and she accepted that truth. Without Michael and Ava their bloodlines will be extinct, and Ida knew just how vital it was to keep them safe, even if that meant her boy needed to stay with the enemy to do so.
Ava waking to her name being called again, rolled over in bed and listened unnerved, having to wake up to it every time she slept, took away the fear and surprise. She could see she was in Michael’s bedroom, and reached over to the nightstand and grabbed the book he was reading before. She didn't care about the book, but wanted to see Michael, and this worked before. She was plagued with questions, did he abandon her? Did he still love her? Then she saw him running in the garden, Ava was surprised to see she could almost smell the roses around him. Focusing in on Michael’s face she could see he looked beaten and torn, and it hurt her soul. His yummy lips pulled down into a pouting scowl, his posture hunched, and hair sticking up where she knew he’d been running his hands threw it, which he did when he was arguing with himself. Ava knew he was hurting and it was all her fault, if she just kept her mouth shut and left alone like planned, none of this would have happened. Dropping the book to lose the connection to Michael, Ava knew he wasn’t ready to forgive her yet, so she’d give him time. If she was him, she probably wouldn’t want to see her either.
The problem about her Aunt had to wait, figuring she’ll deal with her when she’s forced too. Instead she decided to take a shower, Michael would find her when he’s ready. Entering the bathroom Ava was surprised to find an old man sitting in the tub, with a cigar in one hand, and a little rubber duck in the other. Bizarre, she said to herself when he disappeared.
Ida found a note pinned to her mule’s stall door when she went out to feed her. Ida’s boys did this from time to time, mostly when they got in trouble with the men of the house, and needed her to smooth things over with one of her pastries Opening the note and sitting on the stump, Ida smiled when Nell came out of the trees and licked her head. Gross girl why do you do that every time, after thirty years you’d think I’d taste the same. Ida rubbed Nell’s neck and said, now go eat your dinner. Bending down where the note fell, she noticed two pieces of paper together, one said for Michael and the other Mom. Being an honorable women she folded Michael's back up without reading it and turned her attentions to hers.
Momma, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would ever again add to your grief. I don’t know if I should have interfered and brought my children home. I hope they give you some relief from your fear of my departure, and know I can only do so knowing you’ll be there to watch and guide them, as you did for me. I have every intention of coming home to you all again one day soon, but if that doesn’t happen, know I’m with our family watching over you. I love you momma, don’t ever forget that. Love Brian
P.s. Oh and mom I purposely left Michael’s note with yours so you could read it before delivery. I know you wouldn’t without permission, but I also know you don’t like to be kept waiting.
Ava got dressed after her shower and decided she was going to explore more of her house. She stayed on the second floor, already seeing the downstairs this morning with Michael. She stopped at a closed door at the end of the hallway and opened it. As she entered the door she was surprised to see at least a dozen men clear as day, doing different things oblivious she was there. It took a moment for Ava to realize they weren’t real, only becoming apparent when one of the men walked threw her heading over to a ladder. She watched him climb to the top shelf of a book case that lined the walls to put a book away. Another was just pacing the room in a large circle stroking his beard, deep in thought. One was just sitting on a cow hide couch by the fire place smoking a pipe, poking the fire. Another was napping in an uncomfortable wooden arm chair leaning off to one side on the verge of falling over. Across the room in the corner, a man was painting a pretty impressive portrait of himself using a mirror muttering this won’t do. Ava stopped, she recognized the man standing, looking out the window. It was Michael, her grandfather. She remembered him from the picture Ida showed her this afternoon. Not wanting to think about that situation, Ava went back to observing the room. She saw a man sitting at the desk, he was handsome in a simple way, he dressed more casual than the rest, and his warm kind brown eyes gave Ava pause. He seemed to be looking at her, she wasn't certain but she thought he looked familiar, he kind of looked like the man she kept seeing with Brian, just a little older. Ava moved closer, unable to stop looking at him. She leaned over the desk to see what he was working on, when she heard at click and a man started talking.
Ava my dearest. If you are listening to this, then I am dead. I'm so sorry about having to leave you. I wanted nothing more than to watch you grow up, fall in love, have a family of your own. Sadly baby girl, I'll never get my wish. By now you have met my Brian, trust him at all costs. Never, ever doubt his loyalty, he will never hurt you. He loves you as he does Michael, for more reasons than your willing to hear right now. I'm sure you’re together, don't ever take Michael for granted. Cherish him as I have Brian, keep them safe. They are family, love and honor their code. They are all you will ever need in this world. Michael is your future, I love you my beloved daughter.
A second of silent internal heart breaking grief was replaced by distant blood curdling screams. Closing her eyes, not wanting to see what was accompanying the sounds. Ava heard muffled voices and glass breaking, straining to hear what she was supposed to. She jumped when she heard a drawer open and close like it was right next to her. What came next stopped Ava’s heart, unable to breathe. A gross gurgling sound seemed to last forever, before she heard a loud thud, followed by a clanging noise.
Ava's knees buckled and she sat on the floor in front of the desk, too shell shocked to cry. She knew what that was, she didn’t need further explanation. Brian told her about this day, the day her family was murdered. Emotional Exhaustion was taking its toll, Ava just sat there numb on the floor, watching as the men around her moved like nothing happened. She noticed only these men entered and exited this room. Then Ava understood, these must be my grandfathers, and this there study. Of course it was Ava said trying to talk herself out of these dreadful haunting truths. Slowly pulling herself off the floor, she followed her father over to the book shelf, were he replaced a book he was using. Ava got as close as she dared and smiled at him, thankful this imprint wasn’t of his bloody corpse. He looked happy and handsome and this was how she wanted to remember him. Ava took a closer look and saw they weren’t books but journals. Hundreds of them lining the walls. She ran her hand along the bindings, each one seem to have a different feeling to it. Ava did not dare take one off the shelf, she was petrified to really touch anything else after what she just heard and felt. She was feeling confused and conflicted, happy to hear her father loved her, and left a message so she could hear his voice. On the other side of things she was angry, because such an act of love was destroyed by hate. Why didn’t he run, why did he choose to leave her a message instead of getting help, or defending himself.
Ava turned to leave and spotted Ida at the door. She said, I'm sorry am I not allowed in this room. Ida tried to hide her sad feelings, and with a reassuring little grin said, dearest you’re the only one who can enter here. Well except for one, you’re Warrior, this is your study now. Oh, well thank you Ava said, I was just leaving. Did you need something?
You are very strong dearest Ava, to hear your father’s message like that, I was nearly floored by it, Ida said in a sympathetic tone. I wasn't trying to ease drop, I was coming to tell you I found a message. Than you see at first I thought someone else was in here, but then I heard your father speak, I froze. It has been so long, I nearly forgotten the sound of his voice. I understand gran, if the situation was reversed, I would have done the same thing, Ava replied as she walked out of the study and closed the door behind her, never wanting to go in there again, ever.
Who sent us a message, who could possible know we are here, Ava yelled to Ida’s retreating form. Brian, she said as she walked away down the stairs and out of sight. Ava stood in the hall for a moment and thought, he did leave. Does Michael blame me? Ava took a deep breath, and thought why do the ones I love get hurt the most. Tired of feeling down, she hurt so much all the time lately. She wished Michael was here to distract her. This place only brought her heart ache and questions. Ava started walking down the hallway in need of a distraction, not wanting to bother Michael until he was ready. He was going through the same losses and emotions she was, he deserved this time alone away from her issues.
She was getting pretty good at blocking the house as long as she stayed in a neutral mood, and didn’t touch anything. After what she just heard, she did not want to see anymore right now. She wanted to hide and drown out her mother’s screams. How can she tell Michael she just heard his mother die? She couldn't! Ava flinched as an imprint in the house took hold of her, she was begging it was a nice one as she watched two small boys run down the hallway past her, towards a cloth painting on the wall. She waited quietly as they pushed the painting aside and disappeared. Ava thought that’s exactly what I need to do, disappear for a while. So she followed, pushed aside the tapestry and found a heavy wooden door and opened it. She seemed to be heading down a set of spiral wooden stairs that led into a dark musty tunnel, so it seemed. She walked one hand in front of her so she wouldn't hit her head, and the other she ran down the wall so she wouldn't get lost. She felt like she was walking forever in the dark, when she saw a faint glow up ahead. She picked up her speed and soon came to another door, with light barely visible coming from the other side on the floor. It was heavy and wouldn't open. Out of anger and frustration, Ava kicked the door as hard as she could, cursing because she hurt her toe.
The door swung open, taking Ava by surprise, blinding her with light after being in the dark so long. Michael, she yelled when her eyes adjusted. How did you find me, and what and where is this place? Michael held up a piece of paper. Gran gave me this message from my dad. I went to wake you for dinner, but you were gone. I asked gran and she handed me this. Ava touched the paper and felt Brian’s words. To find what you've lost. The paper had a detailed map showing the ways to and from the cave. Ava asked Michael how his dad would know she’d find this place. Michael shrugged and hugged Ava and said, history has a way of repeating itself, so I’m told. Ava looked around the cave, it had that cave feel but it was minimal, there was a fire pit, couch, rugs and even a desk and paintings. As she looked around she didn't see any shadows, everything stayed quiet and still. She was relieved to see she’d only have to deal with the dirt and dust that coated everything from neglect.
Michael walked by and grabbed Ava's hand and led her to the old tattered couch. When they were both seated Michael said, Ava I love you, that will never change. I don't blame you for any of this, either way my father had no choice. This caused Ava to get emotional, she didn't realize how much she needed to hear this from him. Sad and relieved, she stared at him, he looked tired and worn out. Ava leaned over and kissed him long and deep, leaving them both breathless. Michael I love you more than anything in this world, I'm sorry my family has hurt you. Ava raised her hand, to stop him from talking yet. Tomorrow I don't know what will happen, or even what it will be like to change, but I do know for tonight I just want to be with you.
Michael gave her that sly grin, and reached over the couch and pulled up a basket. He chuckled at the look on Ava's face and said, I guess gran knew we would need this. Ava opened the lid, and started pulling out items while Michael added wood to the fire. She spread out the blanket on the floor and pulled out plates and utensils. Sandwiches, carrot sticks, a big piece of chocolate cake. She also pulled out a bottle of cider, and a condom? Michael lost it, he laughed so hard trying to speak, saying old girl has a sense of humor. Ava smiled and shook her head in amusement, she liked Ida. She never talked a lot, but gets her point across very well, how could you not like her? Michael sat down next to her and they ate dinner picnic style. Michael pocketed the condom and felt like he betrayed Ava by not using them before. He felt no need or desire to do so, never wanting anyone else, but it was his job to protect her and he let his desires overshadow his obligations. Ava was refilling there drinks when she thought she saw something move over by the desk. Michael followed Ava's line of sight and saw nothing. Ava got up grabbed the lantern by the fire pit and walked towards the opening of the cave. Over on the desk, standing on top of it was a big black raven, holding a scroll in its beak.
Ava looked at Michael and said, do you see the bird, setting the lamp on the corner of the desk? Yes Michael replied, maybe it was brought in by the fire. Maybe Ava said back and began to move closer to it slowly, never seeing one up-close. The way it looked at her made Ava think the bird was trying to tell her something. As she got in arms reach, the damn thing cawed in her face frightening her, before dropping the scroll on the desk, and flying off.
Ava moved around the desk and sat in the dusty chair to read the scroll, when her whole body seized and was consumed in darkness. She tried not to panic, she seemed to be stuck, unable to move or talk. The silence so quiet she felt deaf until a blinding flash of light, brought an on slaughter of sound and feelings to assault her. The jumble of blurred colors started to form, and after a while she could make out flashes of images. She could hear Brian’s voice begging for Charles to please speak to him, yelling, tell me how to help you. Ava heard no response, she sat paralyzed watching scenes flash by so fast she couldn't even make out what they were. There were so many, and she couldn't control the speed. This was unlike anything she has ever experienced before, sensory overload. She could taste, smell, see, feel and hear everything all at once, but never getting an understanding of what it was before it would change again. Ava's head and chest started to hurt badly. She couldn't seem to break free from this vision, begging for it to stop. She could just make out Brian begging for them to be alright, and the feeling of fear, when out of nowhere she felt her body lift and hit the ground hard, knocking her out of the vision. Ava rolled over looking for answers and stability, gasping for air, when she saw and heard Michael crying for the first time. Ava tried to sit up and reach him fearful he was injured, but her head and body ached all over. She was trying to ask what happened when Michael yelled, you’re alive. He picked her up like she weighted nothing and hugged her like he would never let her go again. Ava stayed still, her body still not quite right, and listened to Michael. He was saying I thought I failed you, I love you, I’m so sorry.
Hours passed and Ava woke to find her head had stopped pounding, and settled on a dull throbbing. She pulled away from Michael just a little bit and said, what do you mean I'm alive, of course I am? Michael just stared at Ava in disbelief. She could see he was truly upset, rocked to his core. Confused she asked him why he thought she was dead. Because he said, in a low whisper, you stopped breathing the minute you sat in that chair. I had to give you C.P.R. Michael admitted. What Ava yelled, I was just trapped in an intense vision of my father’s ascend, I think. I couldn't talk, couldn't get the words out. Michael interrupted her and said, that’s because you stopped breathing. Ava was really confused and upset, she explained the best she could about what happened in the vision, and he in turn told her what happened here in the cave. Ava was terrified, how am I supposed to go through this change if I couldn't even handle witnessing my father’s, she asked? Michael just held onto her for a while under the night sky before he said, we will get through this together, remember we are always stronger when were together. Ava turned her head towards Michael and kissed his cheek and asked, what was written on the scroll. What scroll he asked her, forgetting all about it. The one the bird had on the desk, Ava replied, trying to remember if that really happened.
Michael Kissed Ava one more time and got to his feet. He disappeared into the cave, and returned with the scroll in his hand. Michael sat down next to Ava and opened it. As he did Ava read it out loud?
I don't know you, and I don't yet know where you are, but we will meet soon, I can feel it.
Signed E.N.
Ava just stared at the writing, more curious then upset and asked, I wonder why my aunt hates me so much if she doesn't even know me. Michael just shrugged and said, she makes one hell of a first impression thou. Ava pretended to smile at his light attempt to make her laugh, but she didn't really feel like it. Ava felt scared, confused and a little pissed off at herself for being so weak, wondering how Michael could stand it. Ava kept going over in her mind all the suffering she has caused him already. She could see all the hurt and pain all over his beautiful face. Why do I keep hurting him? Ava couldn't take anymore, she felt like her body was going to explode and ooze bad feelings everywhere. She needed to do something fast, and grabbed Michael and kissed him, taking him by surprise. Here under the stars she thought to herself, I'm going to take my father’s advice and love my Warrior. After the day she had, she only cared what Michael thought, and he needed little prompting for what she needed right now. Neither one was complaining, so she just let herself get lost in the night with Michael, starting off with her very first blow job.
He was a little shocked at Ava’s tenacity but found no reason to stop her, after she insisted. He was concerned with her doing any activity after what just happened, but once Ava introduced herself to his erection there was no fighting her. Michael seemed to enjoy the pressure and rhythm she was applying, he was a fun partner to have, very generous, patient, and up to let her do anything. He liked with she marbled his balls with her tongue, and when she experimented with different speeds. He really moaned when she deep throats every inch without gagging to much, letting his balls slap her in the throat. She could tell he was close to a release when he grabbed her head and moaned her name, intensifying the speed and depth. His voice was so arousing when he moaned she didn’t care when his seed slid down her throat. Dropping to his knees Michael kissed Ava, lost in awe of her. His worst day of his life just did a three sixty turn around real quick, and all because he listened to his Seer.
Ava awoke first the next morning laying in the shade covered grass, cold from the dew covering her skin, and the birds seemed to be making a lot of noise in the trees. She turned to Michael and kissed him softly to wake him before getting dressed, ignoring the mosquito bites all over her ass. She was afraid to touch anything else in that cave and opted for another route back to the Manor. Grabbing Michaels hand he didn’t complain and silently walked the grounds back to the estate without question, following her lead. He silently stressed about Ava’s ascend today, but he was desperately trying to stay strong and not show her how frightened he really was. After last night the thought of losing Ava drove this madness within him. He loved her more than anything in this world and vowed to protect her against all enemies, but how does he fight her destiny. Kissing Ava again when the estate came into view, he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
Ida was on the porch waiting, rocking and humming in her chair, gun across her lap. As they approached the porch, Ida said, good morning, breakfast is on the table might be cold by now thou. Michael walked up the porch stairs and gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, thanks gran I'm sure it's great, before he walked into the manor. Ava waited, she had a question and she felt stupid for having to ask. Giving up her silent internal battle Ava said, Gran can I ask you something? When Ida nodded Ava asked, what time was Michael born? Ida saw something in this question, and decided to have a little fun. Same time you were my dearest Ava, she answered. This frustrated Ava, she was meant to see everything, but didn't know when she herself was born. Pathetic she scolded herself. Ida watched Ava's struggle and felt pity for her. Ida chuckled, you were both born in the afternoon. Michael came out the door only hearing his grandmothers last statement and said no way we are afternoon babies, I thought for sure I’m a morning person. No Ida said, twelve fifteen exactly I’m proud to announce. Ava walked past both of them to the kitchen, took a look at the clock on the wall and sighed, almost seven am.
She was shaking uncontrollably when Michael came in and noticed, pulling her into his arms. Five hours she said softly into his chest. Five hours and I'm going to die. Michael stiffened and said, you’re not going to die Ava, because I will be with you, keeping you safe and reminding you to breathe. Michael hated this, he always had a plan to make her feel better, but he had no plan for this, no way to prevent this from happening. After these last couple days, Michael has gone back to cataloging and collecting data to help her. Watching every movement, trying to relearn how to anticipate her needs and wants like he could do before. Ava just hugged Michael for a while unable to let him go. Michael not liking Ava stressing, talked her into some breakfast and asked what she wanted to do today? Ava paralyzed by fear said, find a place on this estate that has no memories, so I can go through this change without my house trying to tell me its secrets. Maybe Ava continued, we should run, plan B she said hopefully. Michael smiled at her and said dad took our plan B, besides this is the safest place for us right now, please don't worry Ava, I will stay with you.
Ida entered in the kitchen carrying two books. She walked over and set them down, saying one for each of you. They both looked at Ida with curiosity. She just held out a pen to both of them, pointed at the books and said one word "write". Michael picked up his book and saw his name in elegant script writing, along with Seer records on the inside cover.
Michael James Wakefield
Seer: Ava Lee Nostradam
Michael looked up and Ida was gone, so he reached over and grabbed Ava's book to inspect it. It was the same as his, the only difference was her name was printed on the top, and then under Warrior it shows his name. Ava looked at the book while Michael shut the cover and slid it back in front of her, nothing to special. They were an aged brown color with gold embellishments, they looked ancient even thou they were obviously made recently for them. She was unable to process why it was so important to write this close to her change. Slowly she talked this out with herself. What if I do die? Shouldn't I write something, but for who Ava thought, I am the last, there will be no other. I have no child, No one to leave this behind for. Ava glanced over at Michael and saw his apprehensive expression and knew, everything was for him. Like her father told her, love, honor and cherish him, so that was what she could do. Leave behind a declaration of love to her Michael and Warrior.
Ava blindly began to write, telling all she knew up to this point. Fighting her feelings back, she kept on writing. Every vision she could remember, every feeling she could describe. She felt Michael brush a tear away from her cheek with his thumb, but she kept writing. She couldn't stop, pouring her heart and soul onto the paper not caring if any of it made sense, or who was going to read it.
Time flew by for Michael, only being able to write one line "I Love Ava". Michael just watched her write. He looked up from wiping another tear away from Ava's cheek, and saw the clock, twelve fourteen pm. He glanced at her and had enough time to say I Love You Ava, before her pen hit the floor. Twelve fifteen on the dot, Ava rose from her chair with a blank look on her face, a faraway stare. Her hair started to fly around her like she was in a gravity free environment.
Michael froze unable to move and just watched , unsure what to do. She started to talk out loud in an echoed voice, which startled Michael. He stood up fast knocking over his chair, standing underneath her. He could hear her, he wasn't expecting that. Ava continued to talk, farms, old cup, grave stones, friends. Nothing seemed to make any sense to Michael, so he just watched her breathe and cataloged her words in his mind. Woman in mirror, babies, blood, rain, guns, crushing winds, drowning. Murder, mud slides, betrayal. Ava just kept talking flowers, river, and catwalks and music, strangers, fire.
Ava was scared she felt like she was in a storm, she couldn’t hear anything that made sense through the constant muffled whooshing chatter. Image after image collided into her, one after another with a pressure she has never known crushing her from all sides. Ava wanted to scream but she couldn’t find her voice, nothing seemed to make any sense. Just when she couldn’t take anymore, she heard Michael say talk to me, love. His voice always gave her a sense of calm, so she did, the best she could. Every smell was over powering, every image unbearable, unable to truly process what she was seeing. The harder she tried to focus, the harder it was for her to breathe. Afraid to have a repeat of last night, Ava didn’t fight it, she just let the images assault her in rapid succession. She heard Michael’s deep command to breathe again and focused with all her might, and took a huge breathe holding it in. Ava noticed time didn't make any sense. She watched as time moved forward and back changing the images with each jump. Again she tried to focus on something, anything, but felt herself go weak and on the verge of fainting. The pressure was excruciating, her eyes burned and her head felt like it was in a vice. Following the only voice that made sense Ava took a ragged breathe. She was spent and couldn’t take anymore, every image a blur, every smell started to smash together until Ava was choking unable to breathe.
Michael was a fucked up mess on the inside, he could feel Ava’s fear and apprehensions but he couldn’t freak out yet. Ava needed him, and he needed her to breathe. Reminding her again Michael stood dutifully watching Ava and her surroundings. He didn’t know where Ida was and frankly relieved he didn’t have that distraction, but kept vigilant guard. Ava’s body jerked and Michael felt this warm feeling spread through his body. He felt this unrelenting tug in his gut and caught himself when his body jerked in Ava’s direction hard. His head pounded and every nerve in his body felt like he was being electrocuted. Ava felt it too, her whole body tingling like she stuck her finger in an outlet. Her senses got stronger, she could actually smell Michael, feel his anxiety. She could feel his heart beat like it was in her own chest, thumping stronger and faster, giving her strength. Then silence.
Michael watched horrified as Ava stopped breathing, suspended in the air, hair and clothes moving around in an invisible wind storm. Ava threw her arms out wide screaming in that echoed voice and plummeted to the hardwood floor. Michael caught Ava, laid her on the ground and listened with his head on her chest for a heartbeat. Ida walked in the kitchen put one hand on Michaels arm and said, give her a minute Warrior. Michael hesitated at her touch feeling his body tense like he needed to strike. Keeping his eyes on Ava not letting himself get distracted he ignored it, bent over to Ava’s ear and said, just breathe love, I’ve got this.
Ava could barely hear Michael but she forced herself to take a breath, relieved he was okay. It hurts Ava fought to get out, forcing her blurry eyes open, trying to keep her promise. Finally, Michael said taking a deep cleansing breathe of his own in relief, leaning in. Ava’s eyes looked puffy and painfully bloodshot when she looked at him for a moment, before she drifted out. Relieved they made it Michael flashed a smile at his grandmother and scoped Ava up and carried her upstairs. Michael turned to go to his room, but Ida grabbed the back of his shirt and turned him around. Hey he began to say, but stopped when Ida stepped back from him. EASY, she said holding her hands out, I am not a threat. I know that Michael replied confused. I’m glad to hear that grandson, but your Warrior self does not. What, Michael asked a little annoyed? Ida pointed to the mirror on the wall. He walked over to it and was surprised, he looked like himself but his body language and facial expressions were aggressive, hostel. What the fuck Michael said, not liking this, he didn’t feel angry. It’s okay Warrior Michael, I mean no harm and you are safe. You went through a significant change of your very own, but all is well. Ava is master of this house now and she needs to be in the tower, stay with her and everything will be fine. Ida headed down the hall and opened another door, and said safest, highest point in the region, above her domain to dispense justice at will.
Michael followed Ida's slow climb up another flight of stairs having no idea what she was talking about. Entering into a room that was all windows, he laid Ava in the king sized bed and helped his gran open them all up. I know things are unsettling right now Ida said in her blunt but caring way, and I wish your father was here to comfort you. Ida looked at her grandson, remembering her Brian’s change, and how proud James was of him afterward. I’m so proud of you Michael, you handled that better than any before you. How do you know that gran, you’re not that old Michael replied. Journals Ida replied smiling heading towards the door, like that one word explained everything. I'll bring dinner she said descending the stairs, rest now. Michael took in the room, it was bright, large and peaceful, like being on a mountain top. The evening air was warm, and circulated nicely at this altitude.
Michael laid down next to Ava and watched her chest rise and fall, twirling a strand of her hair around his finger. He watched the remaining sliver of sun slowly fall away behind the trees, and as his body relaxed he realized just how wound up he was before. He couldn't believe their transformation took all day, it felt like minutes to Michael. Ava didn’t look any different to him, besides the bloodshot eyes. He thought for sure, if she was to cry, her tears would be red. Ida walked in with a tray of food, and his journal, she set them on the small table by the bed and took her grandsons hand. With a kind smile and a meaningful look she stated, you’re feeling better I see. Now young man, Ida said kissing his forehead, eat something and please use this time to write everything down, while it’s fresh in your mind. Ava will most likely sleep until morning, make sure when she wakes up, that she knows you love her and she’s safe. The rest will fall into place for her at her own speed, Ida then turned and walked back down the stairs without another word.
Michael pulled his tray to him, although he felt drained body and soul. He took a sip of orange juice and ate his eggs in one bite. He pushed the tray aside and shoved a piece of buttered whole wheat toast into his mouth and closed his eyes listening to Ava snore faintly. He picked up the book, opened it to the first page and began to write. He was surprised how easy it was once he got started, the words just poured out of him onto the page. Yawning he looked out the window and saw the night sky was full of stars, casting a halo glow over the landscape. Grabbing another piece of buttered toast off his tray, Michael scanned the room again and finished writing.
There is always more questions than answers, and just when you think you’ve figured everything out, something else trips you up. I know things will never be the same and I know every day will be a test to myself, my family and my Ava to keep moving forward. I will never forsake my Seer, I will never relinquish that oath to anyone, and above all I will die defending the oath and bond to do so. You can’t fight fate, you just need to play through and enjoy the good times while it lasts.
Putting the journal aside, he looked out the window over the estate. Yawning Michael got up and started closing windows a little when the wind picked up. He heard his name and spun towards Ava, she was reaching her arm out across the bed. He could see she was still asleep and searching for him, so Michael turned off the lamps and climbed into bed. He held Ava until morning, thankful they made it, wishing he had a way to tell his father, realizing now in his absence just how close they always were.
